Race Report by Tom Spellcheck
11 racers present for Trans Am on the Jersey Devil at Speedzone, Mount Holly, NJ, 6 in the B Main, 5 in the A Main.
In The B Main, we welcomed Steve Girone, bringing us to a total of three Steves. If you walk in and can’t remember somebody’s name, “Hi Steve” is a good bet. In the race, Tom Varinecz dominated right from the get-go, winning by 12 laps over Frank Alivernini and recording a new personal best lap total in the process. Tom, we’ll see you in the A Main next week! Mike Marciano ran a solid 3rd. Steve Russo ran the fastest lap of the B Main, running 5th for the first half of the race behind Steve Girone. Towards the end, Steve Russo caught up and finished 4th, with Steve Girone 5th and Steve Laughlin 6th. So 4th, 5th, and 6th were Steve, Steve, and Steve. There was the usual car on the floor at some point in the B Main. There might have been a Steve involved.
The A Main was not quite as lopsided as the B Main, with Spellcheck winning by only 6 laps, running the fastest times on every lane and having the best Actual/Potential percentage. The real racing excitement was between Rodger Airey and Ray Carlisi, who traded 2nd and 3rd places the entire time, never more than half a lap apart. In the end, Rodger was 2nd by a few segments over Ray, who posted a new personal best lap total. Though six laps apart, Ray ran side-by-side with Spellcheck for a few heats, running the second fastest laps of the evening. Stan Brzezynski finished 4th. Leslie Folks had tire problems and withdrew after 5 heats.

Regulars Mike Haskins and Al Hernandez were absent. John Magno left before racing began. A very well dressed Darnell Wiggins visited but did not race.
Irregulars Bill Sutton, Doug Murphey, Frank Staff, Sal Esposito, and Jim Conrad were absent.
