Seeing as this was an event changing car, I thought it might be interesting to see how many different manufacturers put out production miniatures of this great looking car.

Please show us your example/s (in any scale) of slot cars, model kits etc, but not scratch builds, just production manufactured versions.

Good idea Steve, Here's my Monogram:

And going from the sublime to the ridiculous, Marx's version!

Found a group photo with VIP's version in 1/32:

VIPScalexLotusAirfixBRM.jpg

A nice old-school British scratchbuilt model: balsa body, K's & steering naturally...

The only other ones I can think of offhand are the Russkit in 1/24 and the Strombecker in 1/32 - neither of mine available in a photo for now... The 1/24 Monogram has to be one of the nicest 1/24 kits ever made - runs well too!

Thank you sir, very Sano, as we used to say....

I won a very early vintage race with mine, because it was the only car on the track with traction - and great brakes!

Don

PS: isn't the Scalextric in my group photo supposed to be a Lotus 38 as well, despite the wing?

Hmmm, looks like it's intended to be one, but with a bit of artistic license.

Maybe the sales guy was at that meeting, and said it needed a wing???

Hi Steve,

Here's my Russkit Black Widow "hopped up" a bit and inspired by Al Hall's period car in Rod & Custom Magazine:

Ooooohh, that's nice Rick.

Are those exhaust tips the Russkit accessories, or paint brush ferrules, or ??

Those "honk'n pipes" are paint brush ferrules Steve:

Russkit Lotus 38- 037.JPG

Doing the Bobby Johns #83 car was an accident. I had forgotten to make the yellow stripe wrap around the nose like the Jim Clark car. Master Modeler Chris Wright posted that the strip would match the #83 car. I guess it really is "better to be lucky than good."

I don't know that anyone has forgotten it, more likely nobody has one to show, although Don did mention Scalextric in post #5.

Do you have one to share?

I finally found a Testors kit that went awol in my stash.

It's a 1/25 model kit to build the #82, and would build into a nice display.

Strombecker also made a Lotus 38, at 1:32.

But here we are talking of 1/24...

I've already showed several of my 1:24 Monogram, in red and white and in green and Yellow. I kept 2 of them in my collection and restored 2 for friends.

I wanted to have those after I saw the work of our friend Pierre-Yves Lebeau, who notably built the one that belongs to Don Siegel.

Right you are Jean-Michel - just about all my good looking cars were painted and detailed by Pierre-Yves!

Here's a quick shot of my Strombecker Lotus (my work this time, PYL is out in the country), a very nice model, even if a bit "thicker" than the Monogram F1 cars.

Very nice! But Don, do you miss an insert for the right front wheel?

I have several to restore and was very pleased to learn recently that Bradblohm sells repro wind-screens of this Strombecker. Those are in 2 parts, just like the real car.

Tomorrow I will take a picture of the Scalextric super 124.

Oui... but as soon as PYL gets back from the country, he'll cast another one... he's already got the mold.

Nice Matt, did you switch chassis or adapt the Mono body?

The Scalextric and the 2 Monogram cars:

For the red car I put inserts of halibrand wheels.

And about the helmet, I have picture evidence that Clark, this year at Indianapolis, had a Bell, not a Bucco.

The 1/32 Monogram is a converted Lotus 33.  My own creation.

Fantastic cars Jean Michael.

Thank you Matt. You mean "the Monogram", I guess, not the RTR Scalextric... Those cars have already been presented here on Slotblog, years ago.

Notably here: http://slotblog.net/...38/#entry688771

I was inspired by the work done by Pierre-Yves Lebeau, our friend we talked about with Don Siegel. On the red car, I had to recreate from scratch, in aluminum, the rear suspension elements. I only had resin copies that did not satisfied me. Advantage: this is solid, can be polished to be close to the chromed elements.

I like your modified 33.

So... About the 1966 version of the Lotus 38, PdL and I did not agree on the helmet that Jim Clark wore.

In fact Philippe showed a picture of the black Bucco that Clark indeed had in 1967.

But here is a picture of 1966. It was indeed a Bell in dark blue at that time.

This picture helped me to create the decals for the windscreen.
