Yes, to be sure, this is it...

Hi Geary,
Thank you for taking the time to weigh that "anvil" of a motor - that's no doorstop! hahaha
Hi Don!
I did an article on open-frame motors many years ago for Slotcar Bulletin - if you're interested, I can try to dig it out and send you a scan.
That would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you so much for your offer, time and education!
Thank you again.

What did you wind that on???

The Kemtron X-503 was popular among some road racers before the cans came on the scene. Often used as sidewinders. I used my 6V in an inline Gas Class (24V) drag car and won as a 12 y.o. against the grownups. When the drag strip shop closed I thought about converting it to a road racer but by then the cans were king..
Beautiful arm, Geary.

Looks great.
Will it be as much of an amp-sucker as it appears?

People may not understand the significance of Geary's accomplishment. The difficulty of correctly winding a 5 pole armature is many times harder than a 3 pole arm. The biggest challenge being wiring the comm correctly.
As far as I know, this is the only example of a 5 pole rewind properly done, existing today?
Good lookin', impressive arm Geary.

Thanks Don,
With the neo mags it will pull some amps, how much, we will find out soon...
I will do the initial running with the stock mag as the neos are too much for this.
Yes, to be sure, this is it...

Thanks Phil,
The 5 pole is a tad more complex to wind than the 3 pole but not terribly so.
I'm sure that over the years plenty of 5 poles were wound in this manner...
Yes, to be sure, this is it...

Geary, it's the comm wiring that throws me. I tried to unwind a DC-65 padlock, so I could see how it's done, but the epoxy was too strong and I kept breaking the wire. I guess I need to torch one.
Plus there were some weird windings that were in that opposite direction from the rest of them. I quickly gave up.

Yes that does help some, Geary. Thank you. I might have to give it a try.
