Jeff, was that body off an rtr car or sold as pre-painted body?

Matt, I don't actually know. I got it somewhere, and it looks to be NOS/unrun.

Martin I think that yellow body came to me loose, it wasn't in one of the pictured Lancer boxes.  I probably plugged it and sent the plug to one of our friends.

I've had these 2 factory painted vac bodies for quite awhile. Can anyone help with their identification? The orange one is in a Dynamic box and the plastic seems very thin and flimsy, with one end flap of the box reads what looks like no. 3528 and Gulf something. Opposite end has a stapled on card reading Mach 1 Slot Racing Products.  I would think the body is post '60s, maybe even '80s or '90s but not sure, and maybe someone just put the body in an older box.

The second body is a vintage Pactra thicker lexan body, purchased from Bob's Collector's Shop some years ago. Any ideas?

I got this on a Dynamic chassis and it was not run.   I believe it to be a Lancer.

Ed the Dynamic Handling body is a Mirage; the decal sheet confirms this. The end of the box you can just make out Gulf and then Mirage. it looks like the BRM power M2. Not sure if the Pactra's a Lotus or Cooper or even a Scarab I am hedging my bets.

Sorry not to be more helpful.

Matt your body is a McLaren Elva should have the spare wheel under the front screen if it had a insert for the drivers platform. From the sharpness of the vacform it sure looks like a Lancer.

Lancer had a series of CanAm bodies that were not painted, but were vacuum formed bodies that were used with colored plastic.  I seem to recall red, yellow, blue, …???

I realized they are not "painted", but they were colored bodies available for purchase.

My guess is that most racers didn't know that this line of bodies existed from Lancer.

Allan, I am prety sure that is a Lancer Mclaren and would have had an interior with the spare in the front.

I've never seen a lancer colored plastic body.   The only ones I've seen were the Dubros which got the silver backing paint.   Thee was one company that stapled/glued a vac body to a cardboard header,   It could have been Shark, or one of the other second tier companies.  those bodies had tinted plastic.

The tinted vac-formed bodies were Hawk; don't think there were others.

Never saw any Lancers other than clear or painted, but I seem to remember some obscure Californian company that did a few in colored plastic - but not transluscent like the Hawk bodies.

Here's the one I was thinking of, not all that obscure after all: Petite GP, but the Deluxe line! Out of Oklahoma City, OK.

This is the only one I've seen so don't know if they came in other colors. Seems to make something that was rather simple extremely complicated - and not sure why they would do this - so you wouldn't have to paint it?

Anyway, a sub-category of factory painted vac-form bodies... and my only Hawk body is painted, so you can't see the tint that well. If anybody has one, feel free to post!

Lancer bodies formed with colored plastic.  I believe these are McLaren 8D (red) and Lola 163 (?) or Ferrari 612 (?) (yellow).

Thanks Steve - must have been late in their production run... and I must have seen that in PdL's Lancer chapter, but I seem to have forgotten about it!

Don

PS: and speaking of forgetting, I did have a Hawk Avanti, found in my display cabinet. It's lightly tinted blue, hope you can tell from this photo.

This product line was very late in the arc of Lancer's existence.  We carried them briefly at REH and in limited numbers. I always thought they were the "perfect" choice for raceway rentals.

Allan Feldman thanks for the i.d. on the Mirage, as I looked right past the decal sheet without the name registering ;)

Matt I am confused as I said you painted body looked like a Lancer McLaren Elva.

See if it matches the AMT hard bodied McLaren Elva.

Regards Allan

I'll compare it to AMT, I think it is a Lancer.   Could be Pactra or Dubro, but I would have to do drag out some old paperwork and see if they even made that body.   I'll report back.

Allan, I am about 99% sure it's a Lancer body.   It's has no relationship to the AMT car which is 1/25 scale and smaller.   Obviously, the  AMT is injection molded plastic..   The Mclaren I have is 1/24 scale.    I'll try to remember to look thru some paper later and see what major companies a Mclaren body.

Matt I was not comparing the hard bodied AMT to the Vac formed Lancer. Just saying that the type of car was a McLaren Elva and if you saw the AMT one you would know if it confirms this and also it would show the spare wheel sitting under the front windscreen which I assume Lancer would have provided the insert of. Stay Safe Allan
