Matt, that's a Lola T-70 Super Modified oval track car!
Posted 20 May 2020 - 03:37 PM
WOW, Don't you wish you knew what the value of these cars would be before you got the great idea to modify a cheap $12.00 car that is now worth $$600.00 in used condition. I have seen boxed cars go above $1200.00 and higher.
Best Regards,
Don

I don't know Don... as a 12 year old boy I don't think I would have cared! Let's cut up that sucker and put some big slicks on there!
Anyway, I later bought a boxed Lola - no, not to cut it up...

Don and Don, think about how many Cucs with the optional colored bodies got cut up! One worse than that, is how many MPC GTOs and Chargers got cut up!!
Thing is you can fix that Lola with a K&B donor body, but you will end up with a patched and painted body. Fine if you want an example that you have $150-$200 invested in. Not a lot of collector value, except for the chassis!

I`m sure if you give this Lola as is to Jean Michel Piot he makes something special.

It's very possible to restore that body, you will still have a restored and painted body. That's OK with me and a lot of people. Some purists want a mint original car.

Did anybody notice this sold for $599 + $20 shipping and probably tax, go figure?
I just see the value here, anybody?
Posted 25 May 2020 - 09:20 AM
Martin if the guy took less money it would still show it sold for the asking price, I think. Sometimes I'm real surprised at what junk sells for and then something that seems pretty good t me sells cheap!!
I agree about this auction, I don't hardly see $200 or so in that stuff. I didn't see the chassis for the Lola which would have added a lot of value.

Good points Matt. I am also not sure if it still would show the 599 price?
Posted 30 May 2020 - 04:02 AM
It did actually sell for that price apparently. The Flipper Tools site identifies actual selling prices on best offers.

Not to beat a dead horse here but, if you sold these cars individually you can get to the selling price quite easily.
As a lot, the customer base goes way down. How many folks do you know that have $700 as compared to how many can spend $70 at a time.
10 to1, I bet.
Yes Mike, I get your point, I would pay $100 for the Cuc. ( if I needed one) and many folks would too. So as we have all seen in an auction I may go to $150 if the car is not damaged.

and all the other cars are on line too.
If I added correct all the BINs barley add to $500 take into account eBay fees and the labor to ship and pack mutible sales.
I don't get this deal? I must be missing something?

Right try this one a 1/24th Cox Cheetah. https://www.ebay.co....5.c100012.m1985 I hope this link works Allan

Yeah, that's a good one Allan - $159 for a totally junked Cox Cheetah! I've seen this seller put on prices like that already...

I was fortunate to hit the buy it now first and ended up with this body after the original ebay auction winner relisted the various cars from this lot.
I got a K&B Lola and did a graft of the K&B front to the Cox rear, making a clean cut at the base of the windshield of each car.
Had a hard time finding an appropriate color and took a little trial error with two spray cans of blue to get a close match. Ended up with this.

It will be an accident to ever find a loose Hong Kong frame for this car, but I thought a Cox tube chassis might be appropriate and I adapted one to the mount posts on the Lola body.
With some repro decals and all the trim cleaned and re-installed I ended up with this.
With an original Lola.
Not perfect but as good as I am capable of. A little better than my usual work.

Well done Matt, so glad it went down this way. It was meant to be.
The color match looks really good. Did you custom mix or find it in a rattle can.
