Martin as I mentioned, the only spray can paint that was a match was a Rustoleum parking lot paint!    I tried it on some plain plastic and  it couldn't be clear coated to create gloss, maybe with Future, but I wanted t stay with lacquer.    Krylon and Rustoleum both have a lot of blues, but I couldn't find many of them and an online color picture isn't very accurate.

I don't airbrush, so what I did was paint with dark blue.   While it was still wet, I put a light coat of French blue over it.   It  kind of settled in and gave me a color darker then the French blue.   After a few days I clear coated it with Duplicolor clear lacquer.    It came out better than I expected.

Nice job grafting the bodies together.

What did you wind up paying for the Cox part of it?

Matt, Here was a recent project car that I was working on. I bought this from Brazil and starting stripping the 4 layers of paint on the car. .  After it was stripped The original color was pink.  From the stripping the paint off it had a dull swirl finish. I already had a pink one so I decided to paint it.

Now what color should I pick? Should it be the original pink or Blue ,no maybe Yellow.

I already had all the original colors  and  toyed with the idea of just painting it a Neon Green or Orange.

Then It hit me. I have been looking for the infamous white and had given up finding one . I tried to buy or trade for one that Scott Bader has( I Think he as Two) ,but that never worked out ,Sooooo! I decided to paint paint it White, Really the color of the older White is more Ivory.

Now the question is  Should I paint it , or Hire Jarius to paint for a flawless finish.

Contacted Jarius and explained what I wanted and he agreed to paint.

After changing my mind a few times on the color I wanted , I decided to stick with the white .

Jarius did a fantastic job to paint it like it was just molded in white.  He did mention that it was very difficult to just paint it white and not add any of his super details .

Here it is. Now to place it in the display case next to the others.

Nice job Don.   I remember that car and  wondered why it was painted up like it was. Of course that may have been done 40 years ago or more and it was just another toy back then.      The white is hard to find and you are right, it's not a pure white.   I bet you could have done a nice job painting it yourself.

Are you about out of space?   I am, I need to make room!

Don

I had a friend that bought a Porsche speedster that ha a 55 front half and a 57 rear. It was worthless until he found a person with a 55 rear section and a 57 front.

Ed, me and mybrother bought a Corvette Stingray back int he 70's that was a 63 split window but doors forward was 65 or 66.   Actually was a nice car for $2500.  It had a 307 with a PG. but it drove good and was a nice looking car.

Ouch, that hurts.

You were lucky to survive that one. Was anybody else in involved?

My brother did it, it went end over end and he ended with a broken back.   Healed up as much as that does and he  has done all right the last 45 years.

We got an insurance settlement for 4 times what the car cost, $10k.    We bought the car back for $400 and took off everything usable and took that to the big swap meet that used to be at the Indy 500 track every year.   Left Indy that day with over $2000 from the sale of the parts we salvaged and another $500 for the title.

Those were the days when a large number of guys in their 30's-50's were really into cars.   Today we are all mostly talk, back then a lot of guys were actively restoring and building cars.   There was a great demand for this stuff.......and then we all got old and started playing with toy cars!!!

Okay, first Cox Lola valance out of the mold; shape is good but too dark.  Next one, and I already know lighter, due out tomorrow morning.  Just need to find one of my blue Lolas to know when I hit it!

Brad, unless I have the wrong valance on my original it is not the same shape as that one.  It is fuller underneath with a half moon cutout for the guide flag.    Maybe my original has a K&B valance, it looks like the K&B  I have.   I'll do a picture later on.   Maybe my original is not 100% original.

Well, well, well, learn something new every day!  Looks like the pink, yellow, and white bodies used a "shorty" front valance, while the blue used the bigger one!  Now I HAVE to find my two blue ones and see if one might have a loose valance!

Mine may not be correct, it looks just like the K&B part.

I'm pretty sure that's correct.  Look at Google Images for Cox Lola and it's pretty apparent.  Can't believe I never noticed before!  Anyway, got to find one of mine and compare side by side to the K&B.  If true that the valances are identical I have a brand new body kit for the K&B Lola and will pull it's valance to make another mold.  Funny thing is that the third valance out of my shorty mold is pretty close to the Cox Lola blue, but that's dealing with memory, and we how how those are getting!  I guess with shorty I need to start playing to get pinky/purple.

The 2 different versions are made from different molds.

Send me the wrong part with close color and I'll use it on the car that I am repairing.  The front end was split clear thru, so it's not like a mint original.

Hey Martin,

Great pictures, but the question is if the K&B valance is identical to the Cox Valance.  If I don't find one of my blue ones tonight I'm tearing the house apart Saturday!  Also, that's photo evidence that blue was made in the second version of the car.  Molded in chassis pivot and front axle carriers, and the modified interior.  Looks like shorty blue has a place after all.

Hey Matt,

Email coming...

Here are the 4 That I have in the chrome chassis. The yellow one was missing the valance so i used one off the K&B Lola. .I modified  like the Brass chassis body version , before I knew about the difference in the Chrome chassis version with the modified body.
