When tech sheets from the late '70s and early '80s say iso, was that a chassis with an iso hinge in back of the drop arm? Or was it a diamond or L-arm front axle set up with the pivot on the drop arm?

It should be with a hinge in the rear.

The Diamond plowed through Brown Stick-it better on the West coast; the Iso plowed through Brown Stick-it better on the East coast...or was it vice-versa?
Anyway, in Texas and the Midwest, not knowing any better, everyone at the time used both types of sleds to plow through Brown Stick-it.

i will never forget watching all the fast guys from the east coast over gluing the Parma King track around 70-71 around 150 qualifiers..the outside of the dead man was pure glue..the solution??MORE inside glue..i so wanted to shout wipe the outside!!..but time constrictions for qualifying being what they were made MORE glue faster to apply while not fixing the problem

The year I went out to the Western States with Joel, the glue was so bad the track was unrunable. The NorCal guys built stiff cars with narrow rear tires and they were the only ones except PDL who could get through.
On returing home I changed the rules with Joel’s approval (our biggest competitor) to switch to limited glue.
We had tracks paint glue lines 12” in front of each corner where was the only place you could apply or wipe off glue. Track could not be touched anywhere else except to clean braid.
Made racing much better and cleaner.
Eventually we moved over to spray glue.

Fred, thanks for posting this John Skeels article. It is not one I had seen before & I'm not familiar with the book it came from either. In the article, Skeels said it was built for no-glue racing & would be suitable for open class, Grp. 27, & Grp 15 motors. I would question if it was an outdated design in 1980. I'd rather say it was one of the designs being used then. In the '79-'81 timeframe, I ran Grp.20/27 in limited glue with both diamond & ISO chassis designs. I should add that the Skeels chassis is a west coast ISO design. Most east coast ISO designs were like those shown by Tony P..
