Thanks Bill, I had thought of that, and if I need to make another one I may try steel.
But it's harder to cut, harder to trim.

#11 blades are cheap, especially when you buy them by the 100 box. Steel would also allow the use of rare earth magnets for holding & positioning.

Thanks Martin, you keep me motivated during my darkest hours
6 of 13 are to be "Super Bandits", and the remaining 7 will be regular "Bandits".
Stickers are exactly the same - the only difference is, the "Supers" are basic black paint.
I'll do a "warm-up" body paint job first, just to get myself back in the groove. I'm using 2mm and 18mm Tamiya masking tapes for the cockpit. The 2mm tape instructions say "Do not dry paint using heat sources". We shall see ........

I am glad some will be Super Bandits.
I have my Super Bandit (body mounted) sitting on the self waiting to find the "blue black" that the Dynamic mirage is painted. I figured that is the black Dynamic would have used.
What brand of paint do you use? Look forward to seeing all your work sitting in a production lineup.
I do not know how you get through it with all the weather issues. Inspiring

Hey all you Super Bandit freaks out there, question:
Was there any other color to the hue of the originals, other than black?
Were the front grilles and edges of the rear cockpit painted flat black, or just the black on the insides?

You inspired me Pablo to get some of my Bandit projects done. I thought it best to not to distract from your work here.
So added this new thread for all you Bandit fans:

Now lets find that Black Bandit.

Warm-up Super Bandit paint job worked nice. Now I get rolling with a box of Bandits
Well-lit paint room
Manly air compressor is real noisy for a minute until it fills the bottle with 150 PSI, then stops and remains silent for several bodies
Long hose and a water trap prevents moisture problems.
Misc. paints, thinners, tools, etc. at the ready
At this stage of the game, there is no excuse for errors, so I pray

Great song, and could not help notice Steve on his Husqvarna. On any Sunday maybe? Nope its from the cover of Sports Illustrated 1971.
Good to see where the magic happens.

Does the "Super Bandit" require any flat black trim be painted on the outside of the body, the same as the "Bandit"?
Posted 13 November 2020 - 09:23 PM
Bill, that was the question Pablo asked on post #34.
I suspect they did paint the flat black details, but need an original to confirm.

My thought is, I'll do the first one with flat on those areas, show the customer one with, one without, and let him decide.
The best way (for me, anyway) to avoid overspray on a skinny body like these is to simply mask the entire outside.
I've tried Saran Wrap but the tape just works better for me.
I use the good stuff (Tamiya 18mm) on the lower edges and the cheap stuff (Scotch #2090 blue) on the rest up top.

I only asked about the flat on black because all the Dynamic bodies & others I had in the 70's were clear, yet I do recall seeing black Lancer bodies with flat details painted on.

All 6 Super Bandits are now black. Time to squirt 7 Bandits, I'll do a couple at a time.
Here is the desired shade - good thing I took Slotblog notes when I painted this one back in February.
