Every once in awhile, I look back to the '60s for race cars that inspired me. Here is my latest attempt at looking at the Ford GT40 Mk IV.

The body is a JK GT40 Mk IV. The decal sheet is of the yellow #2 car that ran in the 1967 24 hrs of Le Mans.

The car is IRRA legal and I will test it on Thursday at Mark's. Still looking at attending the Fall Brawl.

Great color, got to be a winner! :good:   I had great luck with a JK GT-40 MK!V at an early Sano, I think it's an underrated GT coupe body!

As we discussed, being yellow should be worth between 0.1 and 0.2 seconds a lap. I'm good with that.

It looks like it would work, could use the front end redone too better fit the cars.

Cap, you are right. This JK body has a very short front end (but its close to scale, The GT40s had a very short nose); very difficult to cover the guide flag. I did the best that I could in that regard.

Probably work better on Flexi car in a retro Flexi class. Yellow is great but would look better as a red #1...

Looks good Doc.

I have been thinking along the same lines and have a JK Porsche Carrera 6 that I am looking at. It has a short nose as well and will require shifting the body forward to fit any of my current chassis but if I build a chassis with normal rear axle to flag spacing and move the front wheels forward a bit creating a long WB short GL chassis it may look better and still handle like our current long GL cars.

It looks good Doc but I suspect it will handle better with some of that back panel cut out of the body.

Do let us know how it goes.

It's a shame they painted over the back window.

Doc I understand. A lot of the cars of that era had short noses that if sized to scale dont fit our cars

I was thinking along those lines- probably will get a set of stickers from Pattos in my next order. Bruce has stickers for all three of the LM 1967 Mk IV's available.

The Ford MkIV's made a huge impression on the 1967 24hr Le Mans race. In the photo below, the winning car was the red #1 MkIV driven by Dan Gurney & AJ Foyt. The yellow #2 car was driven by Bruce McLaren & Mark Donohue and finished 4th. The brown #3 car set the races fastest lap driven by Mario Andretti.

If memory serves me correctly the rear of the #2 blew off on the Mulsanne Straight.

Perhaps a couple of small leather straps that were used to secure the back of  the car for the remainder of the race?

Very nice work on  the detail of your car.
