Hello,

My name is Marc Trausch and I am from Luxemburg. I am doing some slot racing in a Club in Germany. I am interested also in American vintage slot cars but I have to admit that I don't know much about it. I have bought a 1/24 Revell #R3311 inline adjustable, brass slot car chassis kit from 1965 and now I would like to know which vintage body would be best for this chassis and how I have to fix the body on the chassis.

Maybe someone would post some photos of a ready to run chassis and photos from bodies fixed on this kind of chassis. That would be great and a big help for me.

Best regards,

Marc

Welcome!

I would say get a Lexan or butayrate body and if you post a pic of the chassis parts then I can tell you if there are body mounting pieces. I would wait and see if someone has a completed chassis.

I think this is the same chassis or similar. I made the cross mount to fit an AMT model of a 62 Corvette. It uses wooden blocks siliconed to the body, similar to AMT slot car practice.

The brass plate across the rear section is meant to prevent to bracket from distorting, but if it were mounted on solid posts , you don't need it. The rear section had some raised points meant to prevent rotation, but they weren't too effective so I epoxied it.

Hi,

1/24 Revell #R3311 inline adjustable, brass slot car chassis kit from 1965 seems to be compatible with Revell SP-80 , Cox TTX200 Classic CM260, Monogram X-200 and similar types 16 size motors.

1/24 Revell #R3316 inline adjustable, brass slot car chassis kit from 1965 seems to be Compatible with Revell Red Streak SP-90 , Cox TTX250 Classic CM360, Monogram X-220 and similar types 36 size motors.

So I am looking for an affordable NOS type 16 size motor for the Revell 3311 Chassis and an affordable NOS type 36 size motor for the Revell 3316.

If I have well-understood booth Chassis I own were not used in RTR slot cars or in kits. So It seems to me that these items were produced for the

aftermarket. Both chassis seem not to be designed to fit without special customization any Revell Bodies. So I have to find probably a solution of my own to fix the body on the chassis, a bit like the solution Gary Bluestone chooses to t fit an AMT model of a 62 Corvette on his Chassis. It would be great if Revell had produced something of its own, but this seems unfortunately not to be the case.

Thanks for your help and best regards,

Marc

Hi,

I own this Lancer Body. Maybe it will fit one of my chassis? What do you think about it?

The body probably would. There are a few new 36D's on Ebay but are $20 (depends what affordable means to you). Watch 1/24 Pre-1970 slot cars and you should find a 16D.

I think those chassis are adjustable wheelbase also so it should work with any normally sized 1/24 body.

Hi Isaac,

Thank you for your help. I have found a picture that shows very well how to assemble the chassis:

assembly sequence.jpg

I am only starting now to discover the world of American vintage slot cars. It is really amazing. Unfortunately, the guys with whom I am practicing the hobby of slot racing are not much interested in vintage slot cars and vintage slot racing. Therefore I would be really glad if I could find in this forum some people that help me to enter this special world.

Besides the world of 1/24 slot racing, I have rather good pieces of knowledge concerning the german brand Märklin Sprint (1/32). I own about 30 of these amazing slot cars and I have also a little knowledge about the French brand Jouef. They produced in the past very nice cars on a scale of 1/43. So if anyone here is interested in these slot cars or in Fleischmann slot cars let me know by email and I probably can give you some help.

Concerning 1/24 scale racing, I can also give much information, contacts, ... to people who may be interested in this subject. It would be a pleasure for me.

Best regards,

Marc

Hi Marc,

Welcome to the Forum.

Revell did make a second series of 1/24 slot cars using these chassis, or very similar, so they might be able to be adapted to one of the hard plastic bodies, probably either the Sting Ray or the Ferrari GTO.

Don't have those at hand to check fit, but maybe somebody here has the two parts to see if they match.

Hi Don,

Thank you for welcoming me to the forum.

As this American vintage slot car scene is completely new for me, I do a lot of googling on the world white net. So I have seen you have an amazing collection. I have also red you are participating in races in France. I guess you are competing in vintage races? Maybe I can participate once in such an event in France. In Luxemburg, there is no slot racing club. For slot racing, we have to go to Germany or Belgium. There is a well-developped scale racing scene in these two countries. Concerning vintage slot racing, there was some years ago a popular event in Mettmann in Germany (Oldtimer Grand-Prix in Mettmann). That was the place vintage enthusiasts in Germany met. Maybe you heard about it.

Best regards,

Marc

Yes, I heard about that one Marc - no more vintage racing in Germany? I know there are a lot of collectors there.

I mainly do vintage racing here. The Bordeaux club has 2 vintage events a year, usually June and December, but with the coronavirus, they've been postponed (best bet is to keep an eye on Slot Forum International, where we post the news). There's another event now in late September at a club near Poitiers (Confalens). And there are events in Italy (Roncole Verdi) and England (Double Trouble in Rockingham).

Hi Don,

Yes, it seems to me that there are a lot of collectors.

If there are races they take probably place on a local level and there is not much publicity about it, at least not in the popular german slot car forums.

But nice to hear that there are vintage events in France, in the UK, and in Italy. Maybe ... In any case I try to get some pieces of information about these events and the rules.

Best regards,

Marc

It's a  vintage motor, and in fact may even be an original SP-90. Will fit perfectly.

Marc, to my knowledge, there were enough vintage 36D motors built by Mabuchi in the day, that they nor anyone else has needed to reproduce them. I raced 36Ds extensively back in 1967-68 & today I have a couple new K&Bs for yet to be determined projects.
