I came across this motor on eBay:

I had read PDL's post regarding the Hemi X series motor  history, and he did not mention Monogram in the article.

Here's the link to PDL's Hemi motor history thread:  http://slotblog.net/...e-the-innocent/

To me, they do not look similar!

This is the first time I've heard of it - how about you guys please?

Does anyone have one?

The Pactra Hemi X-88 is still my most favorite motor - then why is it that I don't have one!?!?!?!?  LOL

Thanks.

Ernie

It's the motor that was in the Monogram 1/32 Ferrari and Lotus F1 cars, and maybe the Midget since it used the same chassis.  Cox had a version that was in the Li' Cucaracha.  Nice original piece, but $65 seems way overpriced.

You are correct these two motors are nothing alike. The Monogram is a Mabuchi 13D/13UO and is not similar to the Hemi motors.

The only similarity is Pactra and Monogram's motor naming system. And yes, the Pactra X88 is quite rare and if you find a Super X88 MK2 like you show then you will probably end up paying a pretty penny.

and THAT is why I don't have one!

Agree with Isaac - that's a Mabuchi FT13UO.  Hopeless magnets but looks pretty. Optimistic pricing, even with the 'rugged rear axle carrier'.

They are actually very good motors. They have lots of potential. Great for a 1/32 car.

 They have lots of potential.

Is that like the compliment "She has a nice personality"

I've found a few of the bigger Pactras, like the X-98, the 36D size Hemi, even in the package, but the X-88 is a hard one to find, especially in the package... loose ones are more common, but hard to know exactly which version they are.

The 13D motor is great for what it's designed for: very light 1/32 scale cars where a slim case is an advantage. Because of the magnets, hopup potential is limited... but the can did give rise to the first peanut motors, with high-power magnets, forerunner to strap motors.

And there was one report of a sidewinder 13D in a super-light chassis hanging with the pros in Texas until the semi-main - but unfortunately, no more details or photos on the motor or chassis.
