:D Hi Jeff

I'm sure I raced at Crawley's in Farmingdale with you. I think we raced on Friday nights. Pete and Adam were real young back then. Had a lot of fun there!!!

Phaze III was part of the USRA circus when Bob Emott and I were running USRA East. We used to run GP27 on his Hillclimb. It was a small shop and I think was still in Farmingdale at the time.

There were also two other tracks on the Island with Hillclimbs we used to run at. I do not remember the names but one was owned by "Big Larry". I remember going there with Bob. He had a good business with Womps and maybe Group 12.

They had never seen a fast car run. I glued up his track, ran my Group 27, and destroyed his business. LOL...

Honest, Dokk, I only used some furniture polish on it. That's Mike's Box original finish.

A simple pun of course, referring to the Antique Roadshow on PeeBeeEss and the poor people who restored invaluable pieces of furniture and ruined their values by trying to make them looking nicer... :)

It is a great show. I love the look on the peoples faces when they find out their family treasure is worthless. LOL...

I used to run at Phaze III all the time. The owner's name was Roy (I think) and was a pretty funny guy... and yeah, they hadn't seen any really fast cars in there until a guy named Humm or Hummer or Hummy or something like that came in one time with some fast cars that ran smooth as silk.

I remember Roy had epoxied a quarter to the countertop and used to get a kick out of watching people trying to swipe it without being noticed. Small place, but lots of fun!

Roy was the owner and his 2 sons , Peter and i forget the others name used to also help him run the shop. They also had a small distributorship. Roy was responsible for a rebirth of slots on L.I. in the early 80's with a series of raceways in affordable buildings using hillclimb tracks.... Like him or not Roy was right by trying to keep the pro stuff out of the shops...

Oh I liked Roy alright and remember his sons well and he was always a generous and friendly guy with me and I probably spent easily as much time yakking with him as running cars. I remember him having a southern accent or something and can still picture his big wide red face. I also remember a friend of his son (or maybe it WAS his son) doing runs past the track with a brand new KZ1000 and actually moving the glass on the storefront with the pressure wave as he went by :laugh2:

I remember Ridge Raceway... It was down the street from the Capitol Theater where I saw a bunch of Grateful Dead shows around '70-72.

I think the tracks came from Worldwide raceway on Long island. The dark green 180 Engleman was my personal favorite.

Also remember the days of Crawley's PhzIII in Farmingdale, LI. Then they moved to Amityville (the horror). I wonder if Pete's still in the business.

The last big race I attended at Nutley in Belville was in the spring of '71. Tango had just moved and I think he resurfaced the track at that time. I remember I couldn't make a single lap in qualifying because it was sooo stuck. Ran an Ed Sohl chassis with Greenaway horsepower.

Nice Hoffman box ya got there!

Pete and Adam Crawley are both very much in the business. They run Crawley distributing out of Brooksville, Florida and help keep our raceways supplied with parts. Both are excellent racers too and are regulars in our My Series here in Florida. Great guys to deal with, though I never get a chance to talk to them about the old days.

WOW , Back from the past . I was looking thru the archives and found your old post . I'm going to restore my old pit box .

I was wondering what was used for finger holds for opening the drawers on your box ?

Thx ,

Gonzo

That style box never used any hardware to open the drawers, Tom.

There is enough space between the top of the drawers for fingers to fit.
