[Flathead]

Not too pretty I know but Ive just received these east coast Shinoda'esque thingies and thought I'd share them here. Both bodies are the same (just trimmed differently) and not a body I recognise from the known list of Shinoda bodies, anyone got an id for them?

Testors 26D are home rewound and grind balanced. Silicon spongies seem homemade, too.

Orange body fits the bare chassis also but has been re-trimmed for the chassis under it now.

Very cool, when I saw those on eBay I thought they were extremely cool. The bodies are all original Shinoda Dart bodies.

I hope we can get Gene's eye balls on these. There maybe variations out there, but it is not the same as this Dart from Gene.

 

To my eye it is the most like this Gene's Small Dart. With the main differences being a sharper canopy and a narrower motor cover on Gene's. The nose is different, too.

 

I know Gene has other Darts with the tail kick-up. But Lee's bodies to me look like an "inspired by" IMO.

 

No less important and would love to know how they came to be.

Agreed, Martin, this body doesn't match any of the "known" Shinodas.

In the hope of identifying the body here are some better pics alongside a Russkit for size comparison. Note closeup shows that mould was pretty rough as what looks to be wood grain or could be coarse sanding marks have transferred to body.

The no.6 body, I have see 2 other, (one was all white, the other green and yellow), also one more odd one that shadow's the Shinoda Large bus. Was painted painted green and yellow and were from the Detroit area. These appear to be made by the same creator.

 If I can locate the photos I will post them.

 

The link below is a third odd ball body that I restored as I felt it was part of slot car history. Still its a ghost body with no past history.

Both #6 & #7 bodies are the same just orange one is heavily trimmed.

Below are original Shinoda Bodies known as first pulls off the original "wood" molds.

Look closely and you can see the wood grain.

 

The detail is very sharp on these wood molds. Plastic thickness is approximately 0.040

Gene that wood grain imprint is near identical on this body, material is .040 at its thickest (screen) thinning out to .030 ish around lower edges, however there are no panel lines or scribed lines around bottom of screen + all corners are rounded and flowing on this body not crisp and sharp like the shinodas. So "inspired by" seems to fit quite well.

There is a possibility your chassis as configured with the unattached driver figure may fit this body.

Your White Circle tires are correct for the Detroit area era.

That's possible Gene. But I suspect that the orange body was fitted to the third chassis at one point as the unused holes by the #7 decals match perfectly. Maybe it wasn't quick enough or suffered damage & was subsequently re trimmed and fitted to the gp style chassis.
I'm certainly looking at some of your bodies as a potential replacement for the spare chassis 👍🏻

Cheers Martin, I know it's not a huge improvement, but I'm a firm believer in the "it's only original once" adage, so a full refurb was out of the question.
