What a day of racing at The Doghouse! Lots of surprises, and maybe some frustration for certain drivers (Okay...for me, anyway.).
First of all, the usual gang of suspects made their way to Gilbert, South Carolina, on the shores of beautiful Lake Murray. The lineup:
Allen "The New Guy" Evans, David Erickson, "Doctor" Bob Feller, "Fast Richard" Sylvester, Dan Parker (aka Rocky the Flying Squirrel), and your contributor, Jim "SlowBeas" Beasley
Today's weapon of choice for most of us was the JK Cheetah (X25?) with a ProSlot S16d. Each of us chose the gearing that we thought would work best on the 75-foot track. Most landed on something around the ratio of 3.5:1. Here are the cars:
Richard and Bob both wound up using a couple of the Turbo Flexes that we put together for our IROC races. Richard drove the green one, while Bob used the orange one for Races 1 & 2. Yours truly was running great for the first two heats of the first race, until chewing up a gear, breaking a lead wire, and suddenly suffering from a loss of traction. Everything that could go wrong with my car...did.
Leaving everyone behind was Dan. His car is the red GTP (front left). It screamed around the track, seemingly setting a new record with each lap. No one could match the pace. After all heats were run, he was the hands-down winner for the day.
At The Doghouse, we take your best two out of three:
Congratulations to Dan Parker. His car was hooked up and flying. Now, we turn our attention to our November race. We plan to run the new JK Indy cars. They're a blast. One or two of the racers might be scrambling to buy the parts to put one together in time for the race.
If you're in the area of Gilbert, SC (near Lexington/Columbia), we'd welcome you to race with us. We have a monthly Saturday race, and usually run every Thursday evening, too. Drop us a note through the blog and we can arrange to have you join us.
