Unfortunately, and for many reasons, we could not seem to get as many teams together as we would have liked and a couple teams couldn't make it at the last minute, and we ended up with 3 teams. We also had a lot of people who showed up to say hi and watch and pay their respects to John and even John's old friend and slot racer Fred Hood made it down.
The teams were.......
Team Jet City Gary Donahoe, Dennis Samson, Eddie Shorer, Terry Schmid
MAGARAMA Mill Conroy, Phil Nyland, Bryan Warmack, Nesta Szabo
Bad Company Hector Gonzalez, Vic Dubrowsky, Tim Herrera
Concours Winner Team Jet City Dennis Samson paint
The format was to run 2X through the Flat track and 2X through the King track with 7 minute heats on the FT and 5 minute heats on the King Track. From the minute the power went on you could see all teams were running well with Jet City running an older Gary Donahoe modified Kamo chassis, Magarama with a newer conventional chassis and Bad Company with a completely innovative chassis the featuring a floating and quick change motor box and floating front end. (pics later)
Everyone ran pretty much trouble free for the nearly 2 hours and the lap totals on the Flat track were...
1) MAGARAMA 1444 Laps
2) Team Jet City 1437
3) Bad Company 1380
We took a proper and lengthy lunch break and the racers were allowed time to change motors and get their cars ready for the King track. Bad Company started running into a few problems but Jet City and Magarama continued trouble free and fast were often seen nose to nose for entire heats as neither was giving an inch and after the first half on the King track Jet City had picked up the few laps they were down and the 2 teams were separated by inches!....
The 2nd half on the King track had the 2 teams continuing this epic dogfight with again some nose to nose racing for 7 heats and when the 15th heat ended the cars once again stood dead even!!
The last 5 minute heat was a sprint race and saw Jet City driver and 60's slot racing legend Terry Schmid slowly and slowly pulling away with Magarama just unable to keep up and coming off near the end in an effort to hang on! An absolutely classic race and congrats Team Jet City on the win! Both teams ran flawlessly all day and Bad company ran to a close 3rd.
More than a few spectators commented on what a fun race this was to watch!!
OVERALL RESULTS
1) Team Jet City 2717 Laps
2) MAGARAMA 2715
3) Bad Company 2504

A little after race surprise was added by new Buena Park Raceway owner, Robert Range (center) when he announced that BPR was awarding a 50 DOLLAR BILL to the racer with the fastest lap on each track!! Bryan, with the fastest lap on the FT and Eddie with the fastest lap on the King track reluctantly took the money. Thanks Robert!!
