Stu was the winningest Womp driver at Circle T in North Hollywood, CA. He won the Gp10 Nats at Checkered Flag in 1993, and a couple of years ago he was a dominant Womp racer at Buena Park.
He was also involved in 1/1 stock car racing, particularly at Sagus Speedway.
I believe he was 63 years old.
Clear track, my friend.

I never even knew his name was Mike until after I had known him for several years. Didn't know he was Mike Stuart, until we were talking one day; I just thought his name was Stu. I raced with him at PCH, in Oxnard a bit, which is where I first met Stu. Then, we raced at Wright's in Palmdale together until Wrights in Santa Clarita opened up. Two or three years there in Santa Clarita on the flat track we raced together. We almost always pitted together, which is where I got to know him much better.
Stu was a pretty sweet guy, always friendly and always seemed glad to see you. He was a great driver and was always willing to give people tips on how to improve. He was very proud of his Nats win and proud of the fact that he raced a bit at Saugus in real cars. Additionally, he spoke very fondly about his younger days racing at Circle T in the San Fernando Valley.
Later, after Wright's in Santa Clarita closed, we would carpool together to Buena Park to race LMPs. I never raced Womps with him, but I saw the race reports. He kicked some butt. We raced together until he moved to Oregon to his sister's house. Unfortunately, in those last months, his memory was starting to slip and I think it kept him from finding employment after a layoff. We talked about it a bit, his memory fading; he wasn't sure why it was happening. I received an update from his sister this May, and it wasn't good.
I miss racing with him and prefer to remember him how he was before he started having memory problems. RIP Stu.
