Tom, not sure why it needs a new name, but I guess you can yours whatever you want. Richard calls his an ESC. So when referring to his you should call it by his preferred name.

It's not just $$$ car parts.
Guys spend $$$ on tools that find the fast parts, and pay $$$ to guys that can build the fast cars.
$$$ buys many things, and racing cost $$$
True, but allowing expensive fragile parts means that ONLY those who have $$$ can participate.

the rules set founders maybe did not intended that to happen, but the racers, to get the most performance, has done that.
eg - retro founders embraced the cheap chinese motors, but the racer found out that there was one magic motor per 100, and gear it to last just one race.
the rule set guys should set performance spec on the parts by performance scrutinizing them, but not many organizations has set out to do that,,, so people who can spend the $$$, do
things like handout races are ok,,, but someone gonna get that magic motor and everyone else gonna be unhappy

And has that magic motor always guaranteed the win? Not so much, eh?
All things being equal, there are enough competitive motors in Retro that having the fastest one is usually irrelevant. Besides, slot car metronomes like King tracks are more to blame for the magic bullet search than are motor variations.
There are unavoidable variations in all classes of slot car motors; they only become relevant when all the other variables have been eliminated.
It seems the brushless motors will be extremely consistent but they will be as useless as all the others unless classes are set up that allow over horsepowering the cars.
Your 2.3 seconds all day is worthless if you can tie a rubber band around the trigger and walk away.

if your a top tier racer or near top tier and you have that magic motor on a king retro race (and that's the premier race) you are unstoppable, if you do not win you have done something seriously wrong.
you still have to drive the black lane in a wing car race and avoid everyone that crashes in front of you,,, LOL
these are observations by a fan of slot racing, I maybe wrong, but I've seen a many races and raced all kinda of classes and scales HO, 1/24, RC since the 70's.
I'm not a top tier racer guy, but have built fast stuff (at least HO and 1/32 stuff) for top tier racers who can and do win with the stuff.
but maybe I am still full of BS... LOL
and we are drifting too much.....

Just for the record Phil they aren’t “Richard’s esc’s” as you refer to.
Richard contacted me in March 2020 and purchased esc’s to test on the flat tracks in the UK. He gave feedback and asked for changes in the programs on the esc. After a few different changes to it we determined that the esc I offer for sale was better suited to the high speed banked tracks here. In the US.
Mack can call it whatever he deems fit if he builds it and makes it available to the masses, won’t make a difference to me.
I brought Brushless Technology to the hobby, let’s see where it goes from here.

Tom, you didn't come up with this. You do however seem to know the guy that did.
Sept. 16th 2013.
