She's beautiful Paul!  :good:

However, I discovered a new trick, polishing the chassis with a soft cloth and "Brasso".  The Brasso not only cleans but it protects the brass from brown aging.

Thanks all  :)  I used "Mothers" metal polish with cotton balls, Q-tips, and pipe cleaners.

Next time I run a brass strip through the band saw/disc sander, I'll try a strip of masking tape under it.

Your chassis looks great Pablo.   :good:

We both have the same band saw and disk sander. As you said, using masking tape on anything you don't want deep scratches in is a must.

Before Swiss started plating wire, I used to have tinning parties. Now maybe I need to do a blue tape party  :D

Had a Rit Dye/salt/white vinegar guide flag boil party today but only one flag showed up. I'm happy with the shade  :good:

Enough parts installed to enable trimming and pinning of body so it can go to Oregon while I finalize assembly. Wheels are narrow for now to make body mounting easier.

Du-Bro style flag collar is just a "temp" to hold the flag - a hole has been drilled in the shaft and it's ready for a pro-style screw and washer. Braid is modern but clips are Parma brass "old skool" type.

1/32 lead weight on drop arm was sanded down and polished to an actual .032", since it performs double duty as an upstop. Ride height/flag spacing/clearances checked to satisfaction.

Body skirts trimmed straight with a wing car gizmo. I have new 4" Fiskars curved scissors on order for the wheel wells  :)

Flag finalized, one Koford 10 thou spacer below, two CR .032 brass spacers above. The thick spacers above allow the shaft to not be cut so dangerously close to having the screw bulge it out and make it bind. It has free rotation and perfect ride height. Front wheels set at 3.0"

IMG_1387.JPG

Motor attachment areas scraped down to bare metal, ready to install with paste flux and an upper wire brace

IMG_1389.JPG

The "show" and "go" wheels are of different designs and required their own axles cut to proper lengths. Polished of course. The "show" ones are in the plastic box, trimmed trued and ready

IMG_1391.JPG

Koford short pins bent and ready. Chassis has a WD-40 film and all moving parts have been oiled. Even the pin tubes

I love it Pekka, your goop shield looks simple yet effective.

Drivetrain test was a (minor) failure. The mesh felt perfect by hand, but at low volts on the power supply she has a slight gear glitch. I'll troubleshoot and fix it before track testing.

zipper, in the 70s, we used to waterproof masking tape goop shields using Parma's rubber trigger insulation. Today. the same stuff is sold as liquid insulation for electrical wiring & tool handles.

I did use those lexan (?) shields and still have one left but that tape was cheap. I did use trigger insulation on my Parma but found that chamois leather was much better.

I had one of those M.A.C. lexan shields.  Instead of using it I made a resin mold. So... I'll see if I can get Victor to make a few as he wants me to paint a couple Porsche's so he owes me. :)

I didn't find any real problems with the gears, so I broke them in with Colgate for 15 minutes at 3 volts. Lead wires are genuine Cox, gifted from a confidential source  :victory: Borrowed a stocker body from my IRRA fleet while Jairus works his body magic on the Cyclone. Ready for a track test

With the test body installed, total weight is 132 grams and fore/aft balance point is right at the bite bars. Track test results:

-Pleasurable to drive, no bad habits, very smooth and forgiving. Typical of a well built full plumber. Nice, predictable drifts, very stable. No deslots. When I pushed it hard and deep she just digs, plants, and rotates  :)

-Motor has plenty of beans yet very smooth. It lights up the tires down the straights due to no glue. Runs dead cool. I dialed in full brakes on my controller, and it was "enough".

Then I took it over to the oval track, oh man it loves that track  :D

I'm calling it a success  :sun_bespectacled:

Mura Mercury 100% complete. "Go" wheels are on the car - "Show" wheels are in a separate plastic box with it's own axle, since the 2 sets are of slightly different widths. The "Go" set uses a couple more spacers than the "Show" to make 3.0" width.

All I did today was Q-tip swiped a few "test cooties" off the chassis and slipped the pins in. Jairus work is superb. Interior is a perfect fit   :good:
