I've had a ton of fun here on Slotblog for many years. But it's time for a change. I'm done. Logging off.

My email is still slick33@bellsouth.net, my phone hasn't changed, and my friends know where I live.

My builds currently in progress will not be affected in any way. Business as usual.

It's been real fun watching your builds.

Could you at least show the Mercury Cyclone once you get the body from Jairus? Please and thank you!

Spoke to Pablo at some length this morning and his decision seems to be largely driven by the number of racers who believe Facebook is the end-all and be-all of the slot racing universe. Now that he lives near a raceway and is able to race regularly for the first time in many years, he's found that his raceway owner is Facebook-centric (as are almost all raceway owners) and without being on Facebook he'll not be in the loop for race announcements, rule changes, and other info. He's also frustrated that most of the racers he meets never heard of Slotblog at all.

So, from my perspective, he's been sucked into the modern media world, where the 30-second sound bite is king. I see the world of Facebook, optimized for access from a phone, as being shallow, and Slotblog as having depth. But it seems to me that most people these days don't really want depth. They're happier with a few quick memes.

Sort of follows the traditional behavior of slot racers having little concern about documenting the history of their racing and races, as Noose as done so admirably with Retro East. It does seems to be all about immediate gratification in the modern world, with virtually no concern about history.

I frequent Facebook, but I come here more. A lot more. I'm on a computer, and Slotblog is sooo much better than Facebook in computer format.

But still, I do both. No reason not to. I don't understand Paul's thinking.

Yeah, I've always maintained that it isn't just Slotblog or Facebook. They don't duplicate each other. I do both as well.

But for so many people these days, there is no computer, only a cellphone.

The more I think about it, the more I wonder if that's Paul's real reason for leaving. His explanation doesn't make a lot of sense.

I never compare Slotblog and Facebook. Both have content and people you will see on one but not the other. Neither is perfect, but you can overlook the faults of each and become better informed. Old people eventually die off, they don't just go away.

If most slot coverage has moved to Facebook, then I choose to live in ignorance.

Personally, I wish the whole internet would just go away. Things were better before.

I get most of my slot information here on Slotblog! Facebook I use for contact with family and friends outside of the slot world. I do have some slot friends on Facebook, but it's more entertainment than informational.

FWIW both can easily survive. II don't understand Paul's decision to move only to Facebook?  But, it's his choice.

His builds will be missed here.

Wow, that's quite a surprise.

I will miss you. I think we're all going to miss you.

You give great tips. You do great work and give great service. You are appreciated around here.

Perhaps you'll reconsider. Do some research on Facebook. It is a platform for much of the misinformation in our country. And despite what they say about a digital community (and the promise of the Metaverse ) , the owners are only interested in money and power. They have absolutely no problem selling your information to whomever will pay them.

I am sure you'll make the best of where ever you go. Come back and visit sometime.

If you want to learn anything of substance with regards to building slot cars you need to have places like Slotblog and OWH.

Facedupe is not the place.

I would recommend to Mr. Pablo that he should use all the resources on hand, as it only takes an hour each night to fully scan 50 slot Facedupe groups, Slotblog, and OHW. Saying I can't do this anymore is not fully utilizing resources at hand.

I also use both and, to be blunt, I don't much like Facebook. I come here for the expertise you folks bring to the table.

Facebook seems to be made up of a handful of decent people and a whole lot of rude immature folks who have nothing constructive to say. I hope this doesn't start a trend of the good folks leaving this site.

At the request of Cheater, I am reading your responses. Thanks for the kind words and support. But remember, I'm not disappearing from slot cars, just changing.

"I for one will miss your build posts!" "Hate to see this valuable info go away..."

The build threads aren't going away. Just not going to do them any more. If eight pages of thread tutorials isn't enough to find what tips you need, I'm sorry.  :)

"Could you at least show the Mercury Cyclone once you get the body from Jairus? Please and thank you!"

Will do.

I guess I'm not discerning the outcome other than Pablo is leaving Slotblog. Is he going to continue racing, and connecting with his fellow local racers via Facebook? Can we connect with him via Facebook? Of course, if Pablo is still here reading this, I'd prefer the answers from him (you).  :-)

We've all gotta find our comfort level wherever we can find it.

Great that Paul has a place to race again. Racing slot cars is a lot more fun then re-hashing them on the internet or a telephone.
