I've been asked by a couple people to show my drag stuff.

 

There is quite a bit so please be patient. 

 

I'll try to get something on everyday.

 

Some are as found and some have been built/restored by me.

 

Lastly, some of these have been posted previously here over the years.

 

Any questions or comments welcome.

Cool car Joe, thanks for sharing. Those Dynamic motor mounts sure are versatile.

Is that a Styrene body?

Are those front wheels cast mag or ?

Yes, that body is Styrene but it's actually vac formed ( I think ) and comes in multiple pieces.

 

I can show complete directions if needed.

 

Not sure on the origin of those front wheels.

 

They are metal (diecast)?

 

To me they look like they may be off one of those cheap Hong Kong motorcycle toys from the 60's .

 

I could be totally wrong, who knows.

Thanks Joe, the white vac formed body is what I thought. Never seen that model before.

Nice little detail of the gear ratio decal.

Very neat car Joe. 

 

I knew Scuderia Scale made the dragsters (it was the subject of the first article about them, in R&C or Car Craft), but have never found one. Have found a couple Chaparral 1s and Lotus Elites, however. They come in two sections, so not easy to put together, and you have to find your own window material... 

 

Ah, with the 26D, it was built well after the Scuderia Scale bodies came out (62 I think), so really a personal project by someone.

Today's car.

 

Restored by me.

 

A cool little car that the original builder put a lot of time and thought into.

 

Check out those track friendly metal wheelie wheels.

 

This was an ugly mess when I found it including a blown motor with a mangled can.

 

I tried to stay on a silver theme with the resto.

 

A replacement "mill" was cobbled together using a modern balanced arm.

 

The frame was cleaned, re-soldered and straightened where needed.

 

A seat and a motor top half from the parts box was added, I figured six deuces looked right.

Is the motor soldered in at the rear to the cross piece? 

 

Cute wheelie bars too, but does it pull wheelies?

Will you put O rings on those wheelie bar wheels?

Nice looking chassis and great save. Is it Nickle plated or ???

That Scuderia dragster is an original and well built piece of slot car history. It's great to display the instructions too. I love it!   :good:

Thanks again for comments and questions.

 

Don, the motor was original soldered in but now just held buy the endbell. Motor is cradled in there and it seems sturdy enough.

 

Never ran it as far as wheelies but if it didn't,  it's nothing little spring wouldn't help LOL

 

Martin, it appears to be made of mostly nickel plated wire.

 

Good eye on those wheelie wheels.

 

Never thought about it but I'm sure they had O rings at one time and will have them again soon  :good:

Hilarious Joe, I like that one: the Ralph Nader Corvair! 

 

I've only found one period car with motor behind the rear axle, and it wasn't a Corvair...

Anyway, todays car.

 

Exactly as found, built in the 60's.

 

Motor is a big Padlock.

 

Car weighs about a pound and a half  :laugh2:

 

This car was on the cover of Slot Car Magazine in 2016.

Today's special.

 

Certainly not a showpiece but who cares.

 

A Johan '62 Olds Cutlass converted to Altered wheel base and dropped on a scratch built chassis.

 

Dig those K&B Blue line silicones, sweet. 

 

Car actually runs OK although somewhat slow.

 

Best part is it lifts the wheels for about the first ten feet then realistically slowly sets down for the rest of the run.

Don, when I got it the original crown was blown out.

 

I put a big NOS Wilson's 40 tooth crown on it.

 

Lot's of torque multiplication.

 

That's why she wheelies out of the hole but craps out on the top end.

 

It's slow compared to the "new" cars that guys were running.

Happy St. Paddys Day.

 

This is one I rescued and restored a number of years back.

 

It's been sitting in a box now for years. 

 

It was found as two corroded frame halves in an old slot box.

 

No motor, wheels etc. and it was cut in half as the original owner removed the motor.

 

I rejoined the halves with some slightly larger tubing.

 

I cobbled together a 36D Ram-Boochi for it.

 

German slicks on the rear.

 

Front wheels are from a vintage Monogram Sizzler dragster that I modified to be free wheeling on a Cox axle with acorns.

 

The seven pole motor runs super smooth but ain't got much balls.

Nicely done - now that's a slot dragster! 

 

I love the RamBoochie. The couple I have running are pretty good; I wonder if it isn't just the stock magnets - maybe with Arcos it would have more punch. Anybody tried that?

Don, love that Allard, especially the "barge-like" outrigger spares.  :)

 

Dave, that rail is sweet, especially love the delicate drag link detail as well as the center link/tie rod detail.  :good:
