Thanks Joe - I probably wouldn't have put on those spares (K&B wheels & tires!), but the body is as found, and two stub axles were already epoxied into the sides, so wanted to maintain the look as originally intended.
Nice dragster Dave!

I actually posted a thread here about my process of restoring that old relic. I got it from Mike Swiss, who found it in a box of parts someone gave him. I was hoping someone would recognize it and fill me in on it's history. That's why I fix things up. Every piece has a story.

Today we are in a blue mood. With a bonus.
The paint jobs are much nicer in person, not good lighting on my part.
This one built by me.
The whole build ups here somewhere if someone wants to link it here.
Monogram body on a Cox chassis.
Lots of work went in to get it to look "right" in my opinion.
Headers, pie crust slicks , hood cut for injectors etc.
I also build model kits when I have the time.
A lot of work went into this one too.
I removed the body side molding, radiused wheel wells, modified front pan , molded in scoop , parts box wheels , tinted windows, etc.
Body has four different paints on it with a subtle pearl clear " fog " coat.

Nicely done Joe.

That panel-delivery is fantastic. My favorite so far.

Thanks for the positives
Today, something from the early days.
Just as I found it years ago.
Original owner didn't want to put holes in the body and neither did I LOL.
Unusual chopped sedan body, maybe International? Don't know.
Was supposed to be silver and red fogged originally I imagine but has taken on a golden tone after 60 years.
Dynamic chassis has the stuff that was supposed to make you go fast back then.
You can tell it's early as the chassis parts have an almost chrome look to them.
Later on they were just natural finish castings.
Anyway, it has K&B ball bearing fronts, the seldom seen weight and sprung drop arm and Kemtron motor.

Yep, very early in the K&B game... good period piece Joe.
I tried to use one of those chassis back in the early days of my vintage experiments, but found that tightening the screws to hold the motor to the chassis also tended to bind the shaft - ever run into that?

Thanks, Don.
I haven't run into that issue but I know whenever I mount Padlocks or Pittman style motors in these Dynamic chassis it takes little fiddling.
I usually have to use some combination of washers inside and outside on the frame to get the motor to sit "right"

Thought I'd mix it up a little today.
Some of my drag style wheels, ball bearing wheels, bearings etc.
Believe it or not there's more stashed away in containers.
I'll have to live to 200 if I'm ever gonna get around to using all this junk.

Love the sedan, looks like International to me too. I too don't like poking holes in these bodies, on a Dubro 34 Ford , I glued thin wood under the running boards and mounted the chassis that way. You could also use strips of brass in the same way. Love the dragster wheel collection. There 4 six spoked wheel, they'd look good on my Bugatti. Do you know what these came from ?

Hi Joe, did you get the PM I sent you?
Posted 29 March 2023 - 07:56 AM
Gary, those wheels are plastic and seem to be floating around on eBay every once in a while. Sorry, don't know who made them.
Martin, Yes.
Here's one for today.
Found years ago on eBay.
The body was a complete mess, roof was glued on crooked, loads of glue etc.
Body was restored as best as possible and an interior added.
Paint is Tamiya and the decals are repos off eBay.
Motor appears to be a stock Russkit "33"
Sorry for the crappy pics.

Joe, there was a similar looking real drag car that looked very much like your red "Mr. Unswitchable" GTO. That one was black rather than red, but it wasn't lettered. This was probably in a mid to late '60s drag racing magazine when I used to buy any automotive on the newsstand. It appears someone released a model of the car.

Bill, there was a real car just like this.
I have the magazine with an extensive article but I would have to locate among the numerous piles of junk I have.
It was Mr Unswitchable.
It was red.
It had a bizarre exhaust system that exited the rear deck just like this model.
This is the original MPC kit body from around 1967.
It is extremely rare and has never been reissued.
I imagine an original unbuilt kit would be several hundred if you could find one.

Thanks again for all the positives.
In a blue mood again.
First, a little mouse.
Not a real special car but cool just the same.
Kind of a confused build by the original owner.
Blown Fiat coupe with nerf bars and such.
A lot of thought was put into constructing the front, rear and side bars.
Chassis is a Classic inline drop arm type with a Classic 26D for power.
And a model kit bonus built by me.
A bit of work went into this one.
Front wheels modified in a turned position and given a little "cant" as you would see on a real vintage rail.
Steering wheel even turned to match.
Other mods include a kit bashed Buick Nailhead mill with wires, and dual rear wheels constructed.

Dave, as cool as it gets.
Notice that very few are Hemi powered.
Got some Olds powered, big block Mopar etc.
Love those inlines too. Buzzin half dozens
Three down looks like Tony Nancy.
Four down is a Eddie Hill rail.
He actually had a dual rear wheel dragster and that's what inspired me.
Check out the pipes on his purple car

Many cool builds and great photos found in this thread. Happy to see a Mr. Unswitchable - Dick Jesse slot car, and I have an original unbuilt model kit in my collection that I loaned to MPC about 25 years ago saying they would 3D scan the body and photograph the box art for potential reissue which never happened. Dick and his family were neighbors and friends of my family after we moved to the Detroit area in 1974 and my mother helped his wife care for him after he was struck with cancer eventually passing young at age 39 in 1977.

That double rear tire Buick dragster is AWESOME !!!!
I love the blue 55 Chevrolet also. ... My "off scale" 55 Chevrolet is my very first scratch built car. I love the 60's drag cars .. . That is such an awesome era in drag racing PERIOD !!

Eddie Hill was one of my favorites. He was up against the best, and clawed his way up the rankings. Loved "Freight Train Too" as well. I built a version of it. Maybe I can shoot a pic of it to post here. You guys are talkin' my language. Some streamliners to try;
