I just added a Classic (brand) Lotus 30 to the four others I had. I know Shark made a Lotus 30, and have been looking for that one for some time.

Anybody know, did anybody else make a Lotus 30 clear body?

This is what I have in my body collection at this time. Du-bro, Pactra, Classic, Lancer, and Revell.

Heres some of mine that aren't in your line-up:

The dark green one is super crude and thick, must be really old.

Hey, Mark, the #56 and the and the orange and white are (I think ) Lotus 40s. I wanted to find all brands of 30s.

The green ones are new to me. At first I thought the pale green one was a Pactra factory painted like this one. But I can see now it has differences.

The Blob, does look early. Possibly home made but interesting too.

Maybe someone here can define a Lotus 30 and what changed to make it a 40... and please do not say 10 more problems.

To me the Revell Lotus 30 that I showed in the first pic, looks like it could be a 40?

Thanks for sharing.

Mark, I found a pic of the orange and white body you show. It is indeed an 30.

Pretty sure the Lotus 40 has the exhaust pipes coming out on top of the body and are visible and the 30 has the pipes coming out from the rear of the body and were hidden except for the tips. Some 40's have the pipes molded in and some had a separate piece that was attached to the body. :)

Lancer had 2 versions Martin:

My 1/32 scale Pittman DC-65X (6 volt) powered car ran so well at Eddie's a few weeks ago I decided to make one in 1/24 scale. The parts for the build are a Cox weighted swing arm kit for the guide (the Super Flex lead wire is being saved for a Pro car), a Kemtron chassis kit for the rear axle bracket (I'm planning on having the Laser Dude make some of these up), Russkit front tires, "German" rear tires, our own Russkit clone wheels, Weldun gears, and of course a Pittman DC-65 motor:

PittmanDC-65XSportsCar001.jpg

Now, what to use for a body unsure.gif . How about one of these:

PittmanDC-65XSportsCar002.jpg

PittmanDC-65XSportsCar003.jpg

The Lotus 30 (Clark) on top is much lower and swoopy than the #92 Lotus 30 on the bottom. An internet search turned up some cool pictures of this beautiful car which for some reason was a racing failure. Check out how low and swoopy this one is:

lotus30-1a.jpg

lotus30-2a.jpg

Man, it sure looks fast! I was worried the Pittman might not fit in the low and swoopy Clark body so I also wanted to find pictures of an earlier version for the taller #92 body. This one caught my attention. I don't know anything about the real car except I think it looks unique and very cool. It might be somebody's "Kit Car" for all I know but I like it:

lotus30-4a.jpg

Check out those "Cooper style" wheels. I've never seen them on a Lotus 30 before. And, how about these PIPES!

lotus30-5a.jpg

HOLY SMOKES!

lotus30-3a.jpg

Again, it doesn't matter if the real racer was unsuccessful. I'm sure the slot version will be a blast. Time to build the chassis and see which version gets the nod...

Thank,s Mike, the exhaust location is an quick identification clue, but there has to more? Or was it just the motor?

Rick, I did not know there were two from Lancer, now I will see if I have the Clark version.

Who else made a Lotus 30 clear body. I will check Steve Okeefe info on bodies.

Found these that I am now looking for. Or at lest pics of.

I gotta ask this. Why does the Lotus and many other cars of that era have two seats in them?

The rules definition of a sports car is it has to have two seats.

The rules definition of a sports car is it has to have 2 seats.

I remember at an autocross event a guy shows up with a Datsun 510, no rear seat, no passenger seat. The tech inspector told him for sedan class he needed to have at least two seats He when to Walmart and bought a web and aluminum lawn chair and duct taped it in place.

Sounds like a stunt I pulled when I entered a gymkhana with a Triumph Spitfire that I had been running in G/Prod. No passenger seat. So I borrowed one of those folding lawn chairs, and threw it in the trunk (boot). The rules said I had to have a passengers seat. It didn't specify what kind or where in the car it needed to be.

At the after party, the BOD of the sponsoring club voted to clarify the seat issue. They changed the rules language to, "car must have all original seats in their original position".

Martin I am sure the Sharks vacformed body of the Lotus 30  used by the firm Unique. Other this side of the pond firms like Talyormade GT models. MRRC might have released a blob Lotus 30. The German firm Carrera has a series of vacformed bodied cars I think a Lotus 30 was made.

Japan company Climax might have released a blob Lotus 30. But there again they might have bought in bodies from other manufacturers.

Regards,

Allan

Thanks Allan for the info. It is the Unique Lotus car I am trying to complete. In the magazine article it says they used a Shark Lotus body. So I assumed Shark was the body maker?

This is a pic of the cover car and then the car I tried to replicate sitting on top. Here I used the Du-Bro as is close. There are differences though, e.g. hood line comes closer to the windshield. Also the intake bubble looks to be bigger.

This body is close but I want the exact body they (Unique) used before I commit to mounting it.

While looking for the elusive Shark Lotus body I found these two. Even found a Lancer Clark label. :clapping:

Question, anybody know who made the body on the right with the spoiler between the rear fenders? It is a model of the Clark car, but not the Lancer seen on the left.

It is the same body as your orange and cream body Mark, now we need to attribute a manufacture to it.

Thanks, Rick. I have added to my Lotus 30 clear body knowledge.   :good:

Hi Jens, welcome to the conversation.

I am trying to focus and stay on the subject of clear bodied Lotus 30's,

The body you show is a Russkit Lotus 40. Great looking car but not a 30. :)

Martin the bespoilered Lotus looks to be that used on the precision pacesetter RTR which PdL describes as a Pactra, I haven't checked to confirm.

Thanks Lee, if that is the case Pactra has 2twoversions of the Lotus 30  (post #3) and  the one on the right post #14?

I will check with the Pactra body list.

So found this...

The (Steve Okeefe) Pactra body list shows only one Lotus 30 #117 shown below. But it does list as Lotus 30 sports, where as, the label on the body says just Lotus 30.

Were there two Du-Bro Lotus 30 bodies???

The Pacesetter/Pacer RTR is the car that PDL says used a Pactra body which is the body in question. Dons car below plus an add.

I've not been able to confirm PdL's statement so far.

As an aside, Lancer did list two Lotus 30 bodies "Lotus 30 sports" and "Lotus 30 Clark."

"Lotus 30 sports" and "Lotus 30 Clark" Yes, Lee. Rick brought that to our attention on post #6.

That is the great thing about starting a conversation here on Slotblog. I always learn something new.  :)

Now I would love to find out if Du-Bro made two Lotus 30s also.  :unknw:

I would be happy to buy you a cold cider and a bag of cheese and onion crisps next time I am in town.

I will make up a label and put it with the body for history's sake.

Thank you, Lee.

Thanks again, Lee, for identifying the Lotus body. I did make a label from your image. It will sit on display next to the other 30s.

Not sure if this is what Eureka Petite GP bodies used but it will identify it for the future.
