HOSCAR

March 13, 2024

Nine racers were on hand at Greenbrier Raceway Park for Wide-Skinny and E-Fray racing action. Our host John Peckham had everything in fine shape for the group.

E-Fray led off the evening. Dave Failing was the only driver to not have a heat of less than twenty-one laps. That consistency propelled him to the win. Rich Joslin tried to keep up but a poor performance on the white lane contributed to his two lap deficit. Bob Dickinson finished in third place with a comfortable margin between him and George Vianco in fourth. Warren Hurd rounded out the top five.

Wide-Skinny was called to the track next. This one was tight at the top. It was the Dodge Challengers of George and Rich trying to take down Dave's Camaro. Late in the race the two Dodge hot rods may have squeezed the Chevy off the track, without intent, of course. It did them no good. Dave laughed off the rough treatment, and held on for his second win of the evening. Rich ended up less than a lap back in second place. George claimed the final podium position in third. It was a close one for fourth and fifth as well, with Rick Kibler staying just in front of Bob.

Thank you to John for another entertaining evening of racing at the home of the Greenbrier.

Stay tuned next time for some hot racing action from Fantasy Raceways.

Nine racers participated in the Nostalgia and Wide-Skinny racing action at Fantasy Raceways this week.

Wide-Skinny was up first and the podium battle was a dandy. Dave Failing, David Vickers, and Rich Joslin all finished on lap ninety, leaving the final order to be sorted out by track sections. First place was determined by only one section, with Dave taking the win. David finished in second, about a third of a lap in front of Rich. Bob Dickinson in fourth and George Vianco in fifth round out the top five.

Evidently Dave had enough of the close finishes as he smoked the field in the Nostalgia class by seven laps for his fifth straight HOSCAR win. The rest of the group was bunched up nicely. Rick Kibler grabbed second place by just over a lap on Bob Dickinson in third place. Rich and George complete the top five in this race.

Thank you to Bobbi and Jeff Eve for hosting the group this week. As usual the Fantasy Raceways layout was in fine form.

Next week the HOSCAR members will be visiting Seabreeze Speedway to get their racing fix for the week.

HOSCAR

March 27th, 2024

IROC and E-Fray racing were on the schedule at Seabreeze Speedway Wednesday evening. Owner, Dave Failing had the place in top form for the nine racers ready to compete for podium positions.

Old School was the theme for IROC as Dave rolled out a fine set of stock T-Jets to test our driving skills. We dropped the tops and cruised.

3-27 HOSCAR IROC cars.jpg

This one was a lot of fun whether you were driving or watching. There was more than the usual amount of spins, three-sixties, and "gettin' wide." The slower pace made it that much more interesting to observe. There were tight scraps for position from top to bottom and plenty of laughter too. At the finish it was Dave with the win almost two laps clear of George Vianco in second place. In P3 it was Bob Dickinson only sections behind George. Completing the top five were Rich Joslin  and Roger Townley, in that order. (We couldn't get the screen to match the results described.)

E-Fray was up next. Going from ten second laps to five second laps made the E-Fray cars look like they were rocket ships. It was also a bit of a mental adjustment for some. In spite of that, there was good racing in the upper and lower halves of the leaderboard. At the very top it was Dave and David Vickers both ending on lap one hundred thirty-five. It was Dave, just sections in front, for his second win of the night. Well off the pace was Rich in third. Bob and George finished in fourth and fifth.

Thank you to Tracy and Dave for hosting this week.

Fantasy Raceways is next on the schedule for the group. Stay tuned for the recap.

HOSCAR

April 3rd, 2024

Maybe it is because springtime activities have commenced even though springtime weather hasn't, but it was a light turnout for the HOSCAR group this week. With proprietor Jeff Eve manning the remote track button in one hand and a controller in the other, we had seven drivers for the Nostalgia and E-Fray contests at Fantasy Raceways.

Nostalgia was up first. In this one, it became a question of who would drive Dave Failing's cars better, Dave or Jeff? On this night, it was Dave, but not by much. At the finish it was Dave in front by about a quarter of a lap for his eighth straight HOSCAR win. Rich Joslin's car limped across the finish line in third.

The E-Fray race was also a hotly contested one. At the halfway point, Dave and Rich were on the same lap, separated by only a few track sections. For the entire third heat the two were side by side swapping the lead multiple times. With just a few seconds remaining, Dave had an off, allowing Rich to gain a small lead heading into the final heat. Rich was able to maintain the lead with another clean run to take the win by less than half of a lap. In third place it was Jeff just a bit behind Dave.

It was another evening of fun for the group. Thank you to our hosts, Bobbi and Jeff Eve.

Stay tuned for another HOSCAR racing recap next week.

HOSCAR

April 10th, 2024

Fresh off the 30th running of the Greenbrier race on Saturday, the HOSCAR group showed up at Greenbrier Raceway Park for a Wednesday evening of Nostalgia and IROC racing. Most of these drivers had put in hundreds of laps on Saturday and that experience showed up on Wednesday in the form of some pretty clean racing from everyone.

The eight racers in attendance started the evening with their Nostalgia cars on the track. Host John Peckham and Rick Kibler were the only two drivers to break eighteen laps in two heats. It was John's slight advantage on the red lane that was the difference, as he took the checkered flag, one lap in front of Rick. Just four track sections behind Rick was Bob Dickinson in third place.

L-R: Rick Kibler-2nd, John Peckham-1st, Bob Dickinson-3rd

Next up was IROC. With CW McCall's, "Convoy" playing in the background we were ready to roll with the big rigs.

4-10 HOSCAR IROC trucks.jpg

With these, the driving is a challenge, but the marshaling might be even more difficult and definitely played a role in the outcome. Staying on the track and keeping the tractor and trailer connected was rewarded handsomely. Near the end of the race, Dave Failing's blue hauler was crashed for what seemed like minutes while another rig was being marshaled in the same corner. Fortunately for Dave his lead was so large that he still took the win by two laps. In second place it was Rich Joslin who managed to stay just sections in front of John in third.

It was great end to another fun evening of HOSCAR racing. Thank you to our host John Peckham.

Next week it is TFX and E-Fray racing on the Fantasy Raceways layout.

April 17, 2024

Seven HOSCAR members showed up to race the TFX and E-Fray classes at Fantasy Raceways on Wednesday evening. The modest turnout required us to run only four of the six lanes to allow for a few marshals.

After struggling a bit to get the race program functioning properly we decided to go old school with the lap tally. Once we were all in agreement on the method, TFX cars were called to the starting line. Six of the seven drivers posted at least sixty laps in this one keeping the racing nice and close. At the top, it was Dave Failing and Rich Joslin tied after three heats. A one lap edge on the blue lane was the difference for Rich as he claimed the top podium spot. Just a couple of laps behind Dave was Roger Townley finishing in P3.

Next up were the E-Fray cars. Once again it was Dave and Rich setting the pace. The lone twenty lap heat of the race on blue helped Rich to his second win of the night. Dave put a three lap cushion between himself and Bob Dickinson for second place.

HOSCAR

April 24th, 2024

Seabreeze Speedway was in fine condition for the nine HOSCAR members in attendance for Wide-Skinny and TFX racing this week.

Wide-Skinny started us off. Overall, there were four heats of twenty-eight laps in the race. Rich Joslin posted three of them, while cruising to a comfortable win. Behind the leader there was some extremely close racing for positions P2 through P6. Tony Gianforte, David Vickers, Dave Failing and George Vianco all finished on lap one hundred three with Rick Kibler less than a lap behind that group. When the track sections were accounted for the order of finish put Tony and Dave on the podium with David and George completing the top five.

Next up was the TFX class. In this one we had a close battle between Dave and Rich at the top of the pack. Dave was the only driver to hit thirty-two laps in a heat twice and that feat helped propel him to the win. The race for third place was even closer with Roger Townley and David both finishing on lap one hundred eighteen. Just a few track sections were the difference with David making the podium.

Thank you to our hosts Tracy and Dave for another great night of HOSCAR racing.

HOSCAR

May 1, 2024

The weather is getting nicer and the racing attendance is getting smaller. I believe there may be a direct correlation there. That said, HOSCAR keeps plugging along. Six drivers participated in the action this week at George Vianco's, Pattiland International Raceway. On the program was IROC and E-Fray.

It was no surprise that George had the track in great shape for the group as IROC led off the racing. The drivers were treated to a nice set of t-jet based cars for the event. The cars were pretty equally matched, leading to some very close racing from top to bottom.

5-1 HOSCAR IROC cars.jpg

Dave Failing was the only driver to hit at least twenty laps in each heat. He needed every one of those laps to hold off George who finished less than a full lap behind in second place. Rich Joslin managed to stay just in front of Bob Dickinson to take third.

5-1 HOSCAR IROC results.jpg

E-Fray was up next. With such a small group we decided to change the format up just a bit. Instead of the usual three minute heats on the three lanes we ran through the lanes twice using two and one-half minute heats. At the end we added the totals from each run to determine the results. There were competitive battles for first/second and third/fourth. George and Dave were once again leading the pack and staying within striking distance of each other right to the finish. At the end it was Dave getting his second win of the night. Also, once again, it was Rich and Bob dueling for the final podium position. Rich was able to hang on to third by just over one lap.

HOSCAR

May 8th, 2024

Seabreeze Speedway was the scene for HOSCAR racing action this week. Nostalgia and E-Fray were the classes. Dave Failing had his track in typical top notch form for the eight members in attendance.

Nostalgia was up first. Dave got off to a good start and never looked back. He had built a comfortable three lap gap to second by the end of the race. The racing behind the leader was very close. Rick Kibler managed to stay just ahead of George Vianco to take second place. Close behind the podium group was Rich Joslin and Roger Townley in fourth and fifth, respectively.

SS E-Fray cars were called to the track next. This was the last scheduled race of the season for this popular class and it was a good one. Heat to heat Dave and Rich battled for the lead. At the finish the two were on the same lap. When track sections were taken into account it was Rich with the win by just nine sections. George made his second podium of the evening in third place. It was a fitting end to the season for this class.

HOSCAR

May 15th, 2024

As the 2023-24 HOSCAR season winds down, eight members gathered at Pattiland International Raceway to compete with their Wide-Skinny and TFX cars. Track owner George Vianco had everything in great shape for the group.

Wide-Skinny was run first and this one was close from start to finish. Throughout the race it was Dave Failing just a bit out in front with Rich Joslin and George trying to overtake the leader. It was not to be, however as Dave held on to win by just under a lap. George and Rich finished on the same lap with George taking second place by mere track sections. The battle for fourth and fifth was also a good one with Bob Dickinson just edging out Rick Kibler for fourth place.

Next up was the TFX class. Dave ran away from the pack in this one, securing his second win of the night by a comfortable four lap margin. There was some close racing going on behind him though. Bob and Rich were in a tight race for second place and ended on the same lap. Rich was on the short end of the sections tally again, this time by only one, giving Bob P2. Just off the podium, Roger Townley and George finished on the same lap also, with Roger having the advantage in sections to take fourth place.

Only three weeks remaining in the season. Seabreeze Speedway will be the scene for next week as we repeat the Wide-Skinny, TFX competition.

HOSCAR

May 22nd, 2024

On a sad note we were supposed to be racing at Fantasy Raceways this week but Bobbi Eve, our friend and track owner, along with her husband Jeff, passed away on Sunday. It was an announcement that shook the Rochester area slot car community. Bobbi was a wonderful person. We will miss her smile and wry sense of humor. May God bless her and her family.

Seabreeze Speedway stepped up to give us the opportunity to race and maybe distract our thoughts from the sad news. Dave Failing had everything in fine order for the group, even on short notice. Classes to be raced were Wide-Skinny and TFX for the second straight week.

Wide-Skinny was up first. There seemed to be more crashing and pile ups to avoid than usual, but in spite of that, or maybe because of that, the racing was very close. George Vianco did well to keep his car in the slot and that paid off handsomely with a win. Less than a lap behind George was Rich Joslin followed very closely by our host, Dave, in third place.

The TFX race capped off the evening. In this one we had Dave and Rich in quite a duel at the front of the pack. The two drivers posted the exact same lap totals in all four heats. At the finish line it was Dave with the win by multiple track sections. In third place it was Bob Dickinson by a comfortable margin.

Thank you to Tracy and Dave for hosting the group on short notice.

Stay tuned to this spot for a recap of next week's racing action from the new Small Scale Replicas Speedway. Steve Dickinson has a new track and we are all looking forward to racing on it for the first time.

RIP Bobbi Eve
