It's been a while but was able to get the driver back in the saddle as it were  :)

I finally set the driver in position with his hinge pinned joints and CA glued them, once happy with his hands at 10 and 2 ish.

Once the CA glue had a chance to set I removed the steering wheel and the the driver, mixed up some JB weld and filled any gaps.        Further strengthening him in his final position.

Sorry this project has been on hold, but sometimes other projects get in the way. Cars, bikes, shop and garden, all good.  :sun_bespectacled:

Thanks Mark, would not mind seeing any pics in this book and to know more of the history of this early period of motor racing.

What years does this book cover?

👍 you got it. Not sure what years it covers, I know it's a first edition (US version) from 1960. I remember a quote in R&T, might not have been real but, allegedly from Tazio. Funny none the less:
" In my day, the driver's were fat and the tyers were skinny"

Aaaah, all I can say is at least I remembered something. And also, I hope everyone found it as amusing as I did.
You gotta admit,Tazio and Jose are pretty darn close.

While taking my sweet time painting the driver and cockpit details on the Alfa I bought this Maserati Merit body in a BIN auction the other day.

It was partially built and advertised as slot car adaptable.

A perfect stable mate for the Alfa.

This is a Maserati 4/CLT/ 48 F1 car. This a slightly smaller car and maybe deserves a modern  mini can motor.

Great score!. I thought you might be getting burned out with all the effort you have put into the Alfetta. Perfect stablemate it is.

Thanks Dave, did not know much about the Merit lineup but they sure did some early subjects.

I promised myself I will keep this Maserati simple. As in no paint necessary. the plastic looks good to me. I will not cut the bottom out to fit a simple brass chassis, I will lay the chassis in the bottom half of the body, I will show more when I get into it.

For now the Alfa driver is now primed and I can start adding colors. I can start getting the body in primer too. Always working on other cars at the same time, this is just the way I can give each step some thought and let paint dry etc. I work in enamels so I am in no rush, as you can tell.

Thanks again for checking in :)

Just below yours in this forum. Don't feel pressured. Following your build of the Alfa has been rewarding enough.

Now I see it clearly.

I did look for this in a SB search and it did not come up, do not know why?

Thanks for this great information Dave  :)

Hey Mark, thanks, the rear's came with the car and are ( as I found out ) Gar-Vic.

Once I decided I wanted brake cooling fins on the front rims to match the fins I made for the rear, the MPC wheels were the only choice that I knew of.

Short answer, Gar-Vic rear. (with custom cooling fins)

                           MPC front, factory cooling fins.

The inserts are modified and from the Merit kit BTW.

They really do make the model complete. The quality of the work demands it.

A bit of an update on progress.

Starting to work on color for the diver etc. Gave the body a light sand and then gave a light coat of primer. I had taken the plastic as far as thought necessary before I needed to see it in one color. Now I can see pin holes and flaws I could not see in it pre-primed state.

Taking pics helps me see areas I need to work on. Oh sunny days :sun_bespectacled:

Thanks Don for following along.

I know I am taking my own sweet time on this one. I jump around from project to project as I am sure many people do also?

Its that Shiny Object Syndrome or as I call it  S.O.S. for short. :laugh2:

Wow, the detail on this one just takes it to whole other dimension. I can almost feel his short sleeve flapping in the breeze. Nicely done Martin!

Thanks Larry, not done yet, these are just the base colors.

But thought it might be interesting to see a few of the reference pics I am working from.

I like the brown leather waistcoat, I like the bare arms, so I am just picking and choosing what looks good to me.
