Thanks for the put ups Don. :)

Did you buy your car from the same seller I bought mine the ( Honeyhole ) guy?

Any pics of the grid you were on in that 1.5 liter race

MESAC ran in 1964-77 (corrected, thanks Lee) So I wonder if there was a glass based on the DC196 motor powered formula cars. Seems like something the club would think of, judging by the Veteran class etc.

Don, there is a bit more detail on Dons green Ferrari  if you missed it. Here.

The MESAC members list shows membership dates right back to 64!

Not all of the sellers cars were Don Sloans, at least one had the name Emil which would likely be Emil Simich another MESAC member.

Martin,

Yep, same seller: honeyholefinds.

There's a thread on SlotForum with most of the cars; it's a two day event, with Big Birds on Saturday, with two classes: for 50s GP cars (hard body, open frame motor), then the 1.5 liter class (vac bodies and can motors allowed):

Then Double Trouble on Sunday, for 1/32 and 1/24 vintage cars, following the Bordo model of Concours counting for half the final results.

I used a lot of the DC-196 type motors early on, starting before they had axle bearings in the bracket. They were so easy to build a chassis around.

This one for a Formula one body. Actually ran pretty good IIRC.

This one is 1/32nd, and originally had a pin guide. When I resurrected it about 20 years ago, I removed the phenolic plate and replaced it with a piece of brass tubing to hold the guide flag.

Another 1/32nd car. When I brought this one back to life, all I had was the wire and brass tube front end. Ray Price gave me the motor, so I put it back together. I had the Mille Miglia wheels in the original jewelry box.

All were originally early 1960's builds.

Thanks Lee, I corrected my dates, not sure what I was thinking :wacko2:

That Honeyhole seller had so many slot cars. I was not interested in the 1/32 cars but I do like the 1/24 open wheel stuff he had.

Still have a couple more to restore.

Thanks Don for the links. What a great club down in Southend. :good:

Great collection of this style car Dave. :victory:

I bought several of the 1/32 cars Martin; these two may have been the only 1/24 cars I got from the seller.

The 1/32 cars were very interesting, even found one with a Russkit 24! And there was one more for sale that I missed - maybe that was a sign of the Russkit connection, since the 24 was never widely sold. Got a couple cars with Russkit Ratter chassis too...

It was the Rockingham club where we raced, near Corby about 2 hours north of London. Several of the Southend guys were there and it does sound like they have a good club.

Most of the early clubs ran 1/32nd scale. Around Chicago the "Midwest pan car" design was what you saw most. I don't remember 1/24th taking over around here until, maybe, 64? I built a couple of 1/24th kits earlier then that, but I was mostly 1/32nd until the bigger cars were the norm at my local track.

Which 2 Don?  "these two may have been the only 1/24 cars I got from the seller"

The great divide Dave, club or comercial tracks, I was a 1/24 commercial track guy. I did not find slots until 67 in the U.K. I loved the U.S. scene man :victory:

Ah, good question, I mentioned it, but didn't show the photos. This Cooper (originally a Ferrari) and another Cooper (originally a Cooper).

Thanks Don, I have a number 4 Ferrari from Honeyhole so I think 4 was a number Mr Sloan used. I have not touched it, but I will post a pic here to see if it is similar to yours.

Victor or Rodney can maybe can explain how MESAC allocated numbers. Based on points I could imagine???

The MESAC members list shows Don Sloan using the numbers #6 & #10, The 1/24 Russkit bodied McLaren M1A I bought from the same seller is also #4, members list doesn't show #4 as being allocated to anybody specific.

Wow! These are all golden pieces of slot car history. Hats off to all those who saw the importance of saving them.

Thanks Dave, I have to pass some of the credit to Victor one of if not the last members of MESAC.

Confirmed, Victor wrote "I was the last member before the club ended in 1977"

I bought the ones I have because they had details you do not find on most slot cars, so I had a hunch they were from a club that gave out points for these details.

Then I sent pictures to a couple of slot friends. Victor replied with a confidence  "those are Don Sloans cars" my hunch paid off.

I love saving slot car history and then sharing with our friends here on Slotblog. :good:

Going back though my conversations with Victor I should add this.....

"I failed to mention prior to the 70’s Don used different numbers 10, 5, 6 at times it just depended on the series results. "
