Hi John,

Your post of Tiger Milk and picture of the 220 Engleman brought back some pleasant memories! Our local track just outside of Nashville,TN was like the one in your photo. No glue, only Tiger Milk, made a very sweet smell that I'll never forget! I've got a couple nearly empty bottles now that I never remove the cap but up close they still have the same fragerance they had 40 years ago! :)

I've built one of the CanAm to show at our track. Four of our group were racing together during the scratch-built, Tiger Milk days so it may be accepted. Maybe something from the past will be fun in the future.

 Here is the first of the 3 cars I've been putting together. I wanted to start with a design similar to when I stopped scratchbuilding it made it easier to get back into the groove of building. This is my first new car since 1972 or 73. Thanks Tore & & Mike for helping me with question on any new techs. on building seems still similar to how we Scratched back then. This car is a 2 rail plumber, drop arm style .047 Nutley stainless steel arm and .032 Bat Wings about 132G. Used some parts I had stored away. My other cars are more standard 3 rail no arm style will post after more testing is done ;) and new bodies arrive. So everyone grab a Dremel, squeeze a Nibbler, fire up an Unger, burn some solder and keep the designs coming :!:

John, good start on the chassis. Which raceway do you call home these days? Last weekend we had three guys up for the ROC from The Race Place in Farmindale. :)

If I have a chance I will ask Roman K if he has any interest in hosting retro events at "The Track" since they will be having the Wing nats in 2007.
That's thirty minutes away. I'll be there in ten.

Be nice if we could get that wing car guy Lee Gilbert involved in this. Even tho his track is 4+ hours away from me... it's still lots closer than Buena Park.

Brian, Naw I edited it myself. I don't want to "light off" anybody else.
Bill, so what is Lee Gilbert if not a Wing guy? I have been on his site many times and most of the stuff he sells is for squashed GTP cars and Wing cars.
Anyway, it was just a thought.

So how do you define a wing guy? If it's somebody running anything other than true scale cars, then Lee's a wing guy. You need a better understanding of what's on Lee's site. His eurosports & the MTT track aren't wingcar items.

Bill,
Why are you getting so upset?
I DON'T KNOW LEE PERSONALLY!
The only reference I have is his web site. My view of him will change the more I get to know him but that is how I described him from the stuff he was selling.
I apologize my friend, from now on I will call him a "Eurosports guy".
Sorry dude.

Is it the heat, guys? I don't read anything that sounds upset. Just questions, answers, comments and opinions. How 'bout a nice tall glass of iced sweet tea? Aaahhh! Now, isn't that better? ;)

Bill,
I think that most people running either exact-scale or semi-scale (1960's style) today are calling "wing-cars" anything that is obviously not patterned after a real automobile. The contempt is quite high as this comment picked up on SCI in the past couple of days, regarding a posting about the Chicago Nats:

Motorized plastic wedge racing. I shiver at the thought.

Sums it all up, does it not?

Also,

Be nice if we could get that wing car guy Lee Gilbert involved in this.

Frankly I would be surprised. Lee is a purist and likes speed and does not care too much about nostalgia and/or simple, slower machines. I could be wrong but this is the impression I have of him at this time.

I sent Lee Gilbert Tom Hansen and Fred Hood rules with other info two weeks ago.

All right guys.
I am sorry if I sometimes say "provocative" things and once in a while misread other posters intents. Postings on Slotblog can be hard to interpret unless more words are used in order to understand intent. :) Plus, I will be the first to admit that I do not know much about the current USRA divisions even though I have been playing with slots since 1970. I guess I must be stuck back in the past.

Bill, your right. The Euro-sports cars are not wing cars...They use a scoop like body, a spring steel chassis, strap motor, big fat rear tires but are definitely not wing cars. Got it!
Please forgive my prior naïve statement but you have to admit it was an easy mistake to make? No?
:)

Jairus, your comments do not upset me. :) :) :) :) You didn't get a PM did you?  Today's Lee Gilbert is no more of a wing car guy than is Philippe. Now 35 years ago that shoe would have fit both of them. 8) Not that it matters any, but the body photos on Lee's site are optically distorted from how they actually look. And some will say they're actually distorted to begin with. Sorry John for getting off track on your thread. :)

Well it did hit 103 F here yesterday but today it's only 75. :) Scott, sweet tea? You got to be from the south to talk like that? They're the only people who know what sweet tea is. But did you ever hear of sun tea? It was real popular in the Denver area about 20-25 years ago.
