January 25.

The latest two rounds of the successful Retro East Series were held at Elmsford Raceway. Lots of entries showed up for both F1 and GT Coupe to try and do battle. We had 21 racers with 17 entrants in the F1 and 19 in the GTC. At this point I feel it is better to say nothing rather then dwell on issues that affected the race and had several entries leave, none of which were due to the Retro East organization. Lets just say the mighty Nuvolari track is past its racing prime.

F1 was the first up and after the original and then the second choice of track was un-runnable it was decided to move the venue to the 220' Engleman that left people scrambling trying to fit Pro Slots and setup for a completely different track. We were expecting to run on the small track but it was not ready to use.

F1 concours was a Noose affair once again. The 3 points for first clinched the concours championship for Noose. Congratulations, you deserve it for the great painting and of course with out you we would have no Retro East racing. For those that do not know Noose basically does it all by himself. The whole deal. I am suppose to help on race day with things like tech but I am usually thrashing trying to keep up with Matt and Jay that I hardly ever help and he never complains. The man bleeds IRRA & Retro. Second was Matt Bruce with a Noose painted body.

Posted Image

Third was a tie between Jay Kisling, Mike Katz and Jersey John Molnar.

Posted Image

The concours winners, Noose's winner is the Ferrari in the lower left with Matt Bruce's along side. Four Noose jobs and a Jersey John.

Posted Image

Posted Image

The winner up close.

Posted Image

Randy Kohr was top qualifer in F1 with his new Skunkworks F1 chassis kit. Great job by Randy on a really tough track. I wasn't given the F1 sheet with the times so I will go right into the race.

B MAIN

Posted Image

The B was a round robin with two move ups to the A. I think the expressions pretty much sum up the day. LOL... Matt won the B and I was second beating Dean Willis by less than half a lap for the move-up.

1. Matt Bruce, 174 laps
2. tonyp, 165
3. Dean Willis 165
4. Russ Katz, 164
5. Chris Radisich, 162
6. Bob Harless, 161
7. Keith Dickson, 151
8. Jersey John, 150
9. Bruce Baughman, 147
10. Billy Walker, 121, destroyed
11. Harry Boudreau, destroyed

A MAIN

Posted Image

Rob Kurylo with another podium finish in third, Jay Kisling ran his Noose loaner car to first and Matt Bruce a close second.

Basically the race was who survived the bank and who didn't. I think all the cars from third down made a trip to check the men's room door and the ceiling tiles at least once.

1. Jay Kisling, 180 laps
2. Matt Bruce, 178
3. Rob Kurylo, 169
4. tonyp, 167, launched ripped off pan
5. Dustin Morris, 162, Launched
6.Mike Katz, 161 launched over lap counter
7. Randy Kohr, 161, lost laps in last heat on orange
8. Noose 160 launched (possibly a new record - six times and that was with blipping)

Posted Image

Posted Image

Jay's winner. Jay did not want to risk his good car wanting to save it for the R4 and was not going to run F1. Noose loaned him his back up still set-up for the short track. With the slow motor Jay was able to tame the track and bring it home in first place. 0/S Cooper body by Noose, tonyp chassis, TSR motor, 8/28 gears, Red Fox guide, Alpha rears, JK Fronts, controller by Carsteen.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Matt Bruce's second place machine. O/S Red Fox Cooper by Noose, Bruce chassis, Pro Slot motor, 7/28 gears, Red Fox guide, JK fronts, JK rears. Controller by Third Eye.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Rob Kurylo has been getting a lot of good use with this F1 lately. Eddie Mac painted Ferrari, tonyp chassis, Pro Slot motor, 7/29 gears, Red Fox guide, JK untreated rears, JK fronts, controller by Mistress Heather.

Posted Image

Mike had a killer F1 but it would launch for no reason over the lap counter strip costing Mike at the minimum his usual third place.

Bob Harless is the son of legendary racer now gone Bill Harless. Bill had his "Mule Team" and kept pro racing going at Elmsford in those black years. Bill also made the famous Mule Shoes tires. It is great to have Bob running with us. He used to alway glue my lane when I used to race there. It was always perfect! I wish Bill was here to race with us, I know he would love it!

It is great to have Dustin Morris racing again after his really bad motorcycle accident last year.

Mike Katz is ready for any jail door racing with an original from 1966!

:D Great report Tony!!!! Should have won this one but I drove it off too many times in the deadman on the inside lane---just poor driving/lack of recent experience on this track. Haven't raced on it since the sixties.

Great report Tony as always.

How come no one took a pic of me with my arse up in the air as I climbed on the track before the lead on to literally "carve" the slot on black lane so the damn cars would at least stop de-slotting in that spot? With-X-Acto in hand I got up there and took the "gate" out of the slot. Just one of many adventures with the track. :laugh2:

I should have known it was going to be a bad day when...

The only coffee place around was closed
The pizza place upstairs was closed on a Sunday (NO PIZZA PLACE in NY closes on a Sunday)

I think my voice is finally coming back. I yelled track so many times for not only myself but other guys when I was marshaling. Fortunately I did not need to wear an athletic supporter as others wished they had (ouch is right). First aid kits were utilized to cover wounds received in the dead man. :shok:

:D Great job Joe!!! Unfortunately my F1 car was still deslotting there on black and launching in the bank so I had to blip there to keep it on. The F1 that Russ ran with my 2 year old Tony P chassis had no problems at all.

Also Noose, what can we say, you are the best. How about not entering any more this year and letting someone else get a chance to win. LOL.... Like Mike you deserve it buddy.

I really wanted to make the A Main to give Mike a run for the GT Title but just missed it and his car was one of the smoothest out there. He drives great and it always seems I wind up next to him at some point and cannot find a hat to wear that he can see over/around. :laugh2:

OK on the concours. We'll not let guys vote for my cars. Tell ya what. I'll donate a painted retro body to the racer who has the most concours points for a body he/she personally painted for the balance of the series.

Nope. Not a scratch on it. That was the only one of my cars that did not launch or take the magic lane ride on green lane in the deadman. Even my both F1s are fine to include the frames. Shocking but true considering mine tried to make itself into a stealth bomber. Still don't know how I didn't hit the fire sprinkler on the ceiling. Came close though. Instead of track I was getting ready to yell "Bogey at 11 O'clock" :laugh2: :laugh2:

It was bad, very bad. I had to ask Randy Kohr to spot for me when I went to the mens room so I did not get hit in the head. Seriously though a few spectators were almost hit.

I know Keith sustained a cut hand and both Jersey John and Robert were not capable of having sex when they got home Sunday night. I think Robert was hit there twice by cars launching going in under the bridge or flying off the top of the bridge when they launched up there. Next time wear a cup guys. LOL...

Sounds like you guys had fun even with some track challenges.

We are pretty spoiled at BP. We rarely get a braid call, the tracks are smooth and power isn't an issue. Before people gripe about the track you guys ran on they should remember what tracks were often like in the 70's. Bumps, launch ramps and wimpy batteries were the norm, at least on the West Coast.

Congrats on sewing up Concours Noose!

Thanks Mike. Just about all of the tracks we run on out here are well maintained. Issues about this one were discussed at length in September after the last race there and we told everything would be taken care of. They wanted more retro racing there.

:D Thanks for the accolades Tony!!!! Very meaningful coming from one of slot racing's best ever!!! This season so far it just happens the races I missed or bombed in were can am or F1 and I did well in all the GTC races. A lot of my success comes from your help and inspiration. The TSR motors I feel also help to equalize this class-- so far for me I have had good performance from almost every one I bought.

Your a CLASS ACT Noose and a great help to everyone. :D :D
