Thanks Rick. As a former track owner I'm sure you know what it feels like to watch everyone else have the fun. It REALLY SUX ! Maybe if I start now I will have time to finish a car................Wait!!! I'll just steal a RGO ride. And next year Mike, we insist that you also race in the event. There are plenty there to help where you need help to get that part done. It's just not right to have a top A Main racer not entered in the race.............

Mike, just a question, are the dates set in stone yet. I have a ton of airline miles, and maybe I can persuade Bryan, Phil and Tore to join me to come to next year's race. Just let me know when you decide what the final classes are, you have got a few West Coast racers that would like to join in the fun.
Mill,
That would be awesome if you guys came. You guys will have a blast and love the track for sure.
You "donating" all your miles so those guys get to come on your "dime"??? LOL

It would be great if you guys came to race.
Mike McMasters has, IMHO, the perfect King to run Retro cars on. Handling/driving is way more important on it than horsepower.
You'll love it.

How about this Retro Anglewinders with Coupe bodies?
Fast, fun, and everybody gets to build a new car!
#63
Posted 11 June 2009 - 07:06 PM
NO...
Very little interest in anglewinders, except maybe for ______. But, he doesn't race anyway...
The R4 format is pretty solid at this point.
Everyone likes the classes now run...
It has been proven that you don't need to qualify to waste time and have 'fun'...
Why mess with it?

Way cool. It would be so awesome if you guys came to this event. To have you there would be truly retro and make it historic. I Plan to be there.
Let's race...

Perhaps you three can have a 'crash and burn' race after everyone leaves. Bet you only have two participants...

I see you still think you have it all figured out... Maybe you need to start your OWN SERIES and spread all your HALF BAKED Ideas there... OOOOHH that's right, you did and then bailed before the first race... But you did have time to become some kind of a redneck round track promo guy... You might watch telling people what they want to run as you don't have any idea..

Just my (and probably most of the SERRA racers) $.02.... I'd like to see Stock Cars replace the GTC class. The GTCs really aren't much more than Can-Ams with a different body but the Stockers are a whole different deal.
We would then be racing the "Big Three", Can-Am, F1, and Stock Cars, Wooo hooo!

WOW. Very cool. Having you guys attend would be awesome. Frankly I can't think of a better way for you to use your FF miles . Very nice!!
The dates ARE carved in stone. March 11th to 14th. I am still a little undecided about classes. The R4, at only 2 years old, already feels as much like a family reunion as it is does a race. My challenge is to do my best to keep both the racing and the social aspect of the event at it's already high level.
Given the huge amount of entries at the R4/2 and the expected growth for the R4/3 I have decided that only one class per day will be raced. Hopefully this will allow us to be a bit more relaxed and have more time for a little socializing afterwards. So.....GT Coupe will run on Friday, F-1 will run on Saturday, and Can-Am will run on Sunday. This much you can count on. The dilema is "Do I race JK Spec on Thursday?" As much as I hate to say it I am leaning towards "NO". I strongly support JK Spec as an introduction to the world of retro and I am also very appreciative of all that JK Products does for the retro program. But JK Spec is more of a regional class than the others and many other areas don't run it. Also many racers travel hundreds of mile to race in the R4 and could put the extra practice time on Thursday to good use in preparation for the "core" classes of the IRRA.
I hate to exclude anyone. I want everybody to enjoy all that retro slot racing has to offer. While having one less class of racing may lead to less overall entries it may make for a more enjoyable event. The number of smiles and hugs at the end of the R4/2 coupled with the sportsmanship and comradery during the event was great to see. Something I wasn't used to seeing at many other "big" races I have attended over the years. Just something else that makes retro special.
With the "west coasters" in attendance we will truly have fantastic racing with the "best of the best" on the track. That combined with more time to "bench race" or just plain BS should lead to maximum FUN.

Ahh... I see you still don't have a clue in Newark...Hello Larry, I see you still think you have it all figured out... Maybe you need to start your OWN SERIES and spread all your HALF BAKED Ideas there... OOOOHH that's right you did and then baled before the first race... But you did have time to become some kind of a redneck round track Promo guy... You might watch telling people what they want to run as you don't have any Idea..
I have explained the Penn-Ohio scenario ... several times.
Again, for your benefit, I get paid a great deal of money doing the red neck oval stuff. I gave up the Penn-Ohio stuff when I was job hunting, and didn't know if I was going to be able to fulfill my commitment to organize the series. Hopefully, after explaining it SIX times, you get it...
No one has answered MY question: Has there been an IRRA anglewinder race held anywhere? With the obvious popularity of the class, one would think every IRRA region would be racing them.
BTW... good to see you learned how to spell 'half'.
With kindest regards,
LM

To my knowledge NO, but they do race the D3 version in California. Conversely, I also don't see an overwhelming migration to Stock Car. Other than a couple of Retro East races, the majority of where it has been run has been in the chastised RMMRA.No one has answered MY question: Has there been an IRRA angle winder race held anywhere? With the obvious popularity of the class, one would think every IRRA region would be racing them.
Personally, I don't see why the IRRA needs to be everything for everyone? I also don't understand why, if it is in the rules, people see the need to try to incorporate the class into a program? FWIW I wouldn't loose any sleep if either class disappeared from the rules and everyone focused on the core classes of F1, GTC, and Can-Am.
To quote Ron Hershman from another blog in reference to USRA racing:
"The Group 10 class was the largest when Wedge bodies were allowed to run. The year we went to Stock Car bodies started the decline in Group 10 racing, then the motors made it worse."
You would think we would have learned something from the past and not even entertain the idea of running stockcar?
Larry:
I would have thought you would have been all over some JD class addition?

D3 is not IRRA... That argument won't hold water.
I think the current IRRA 'national' format is fine... ie: three classes at the R4. I think the GTC class is redundant, but I'll race it.
At least two IRRA regions race stock cars (Retro East and SERRA), and next year there will be three, as they will be added to the Penn-Ohio schedule.
Again, how many IRRA regions are racing anglewinders?
IMHO... Stock Cars are fun, because they are different. If I want to race an anglewinder, I'll buy a Flexi-car.
I see no need for IRRA to add 'Jail Door' classes, but you better believe I'm going to be at every Retro East F1 race I can make. Those 1966 era cars are just plain fun. I like them so much, I may just end up racing them, and a variety of oval cars that appeal to me.
I would suggest that you and Dave do the same, and race what you like.
