I seem to remember in the '70s there were two amazing guys who painted under the moniker JAP. I think they were from Chicago. They did incredible cartoon figures on their bodies. I remember a killer Nixon head on one. Also Ted "Sundance" Coates was one of the greatest. Keiji Kanegawa did some awesome bodies as well.

Adam,

A very late reply to a very old post.

There WERE two amazing guys who painted under the moniker JaP, or, JaP Bodies. It stood for Jerry and Pat, or, Jerry Matthews and Pat Cassidy. They were out of the Detroit area, not Chicago.

They painted some great Pooch bodies with a saggy faced dog, methinks, but their masterpiece was a "Zig Zag Man" with a characature of Richard Nixon's face. Needless to say, it was controversial. Slot car bodies were previously untapped artist's canvas for personal expression in a politically strange time.

I remember Jan Limpach was particularly enamored with that body when it was debuted.

Jerry went on to paint award winning chopper motorcycles in the middle '70s. One of his favorite "trademarks" were unusual color mixes. He had one he particularly liked for a time that he called, "Root Beer", which was a deep brown metallic with some pearl in it. (I also coerced him to help me paint my 1:1 race car in his garage!)

Pat went on to paint as "Kid Cassidy" according to Nelson Swanberg, who was closer to the 1/24 goings-on than I was.

JaP deserves their place in slot car history. I think they may have pioneered lace patterns on slot cars. I know Jerry would try anything to get a great effect. They were my inspiration to paint some cool bodies in the late '70s.

AJ

Sorry about the nerf. "Sorry? Sorry? There's no apologizing in slot car racing!"

Besides, where would I even begin?   I should probably start with my wife ...

"I don't often get very many "fast laps" but I very often get many laps quickly."

The only thing I know about slot cars is if I had a good time when I leave the building! I can count the times I didn't on one two three hands!

Former Home Track - Slot Car Speedway and Hobbies, Longmont, CO (now at Duffy's Raceway), Noteworthy for the 155' Hillclimb track featuring the THUNDER-DONUT - "Two men enter; one man leaves!"

Cool story... better late then never. I was doing lace in the '60s and some of the last bodies I did back then had a lot of lace work in them.

To anyone who wants to listen...

Noose did the HO bodies and the two Indy bodies (the Foyt and Kenyon cars). No one can even get the proper perspective from these pictures as to how nice and what a great job he did on these. I am so happy with what he did I just can't express it. These are AWESOME!!!!

Thanks, Noose, for a GREAT job!

Thanks, Lou. It was a fun project, especially the the Indy cars since those bodies were the same ones I painted 40 years ago when they first came out!

For anyone who may want a body done by Noose, it is worth it!!!

I received the bodies Noose did for me in Post #890. A collection of USMC cars. The pictures do not do the bodies any justice. Noose is definitely a master painter and artist. His work is outstanding and the attention to detail is unbelieveable.

Noose, your work is awesome!!! THANKS!!!

Mr. Warmack is all set for the Western States Jail Door and for the JD Enduro with his Team Boola Lolas. Note, Bryan likes me to leave the sides clear so he can finish them off in silver after mounting them. So that's why the sides may look a little weird.

Thanks to Noose!!!

securedownload.jpg

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to Noose for doing up a body for Joe's first retro car.

Anyone who knows Noose, knows the quality of his work, and Joe has always admired him.
I contacted him awhile back, and told him I wanted to build us a couple of retro cars, and asked
him how much to do a couple of bodies for us. His reply was, "Joe's is on me"!!

Now I'm sure you all know the time that goes into doing these bodies, and I think it was very kind of Noose to want to do a special one for Joe at no charge. The trouble is, now I have to buy one, so Joe doesn't one-up me. :D

I just wanted to tell you all what he did for Joe. Thanks, Noose!
