I'm going to take it to the track this weekend and have someone give me a hand with it. Should put some pics up by Monday or so!

Put a junk used Ti22 on it and save the Noose for a big event.

Or save it for posterity. I have a Ferrari 612 that Noose painted in 1970. It was too beautiful to mount back then, just to get torn up racing. I'm glad I kept it. It was a prize at a special race event, and it's even more special now, nearly 40 years later.

Post a pic of it, John; I'm sure we'd all like to see it!

As most of you know, Howmet Tx, who is really John Dilworth at the local pub, has been making some very awesome bodies of cars from back in the day when some of us were flat bellies, had hair and could see without wearing jewelers glasses.

He recently sent me this Elfin to paint for him for his own use and here it is:

While I was at it, I got this Ferrari 312M done for Tony P so he had something to mount on one of his Jail Doors to take with him next week.

Joe,

Both bodies are very nice but I think your one "6" short on Tony's driver's suit. :)

Noose,

I'm surprised the car does not have the "66" on it as well.

Ferraris always look so good in RED! Perhaps that's why Enzo used that color.

As always a super job!

I might have to connect with you on a "Lizard Skin" body for use down here in GRRR.

Especially if we can make it look like this on the front:

I would imagine that seeing this coming up from behind would keep TonyP on his toes! :laugh2:

Marty, I'm pretty sure that if Tony P had one that size come up behind him he would literally "schnizz" himself and toes wouldn't have anything to do with it :laugh2: .

Marty

Back in the day, cars were painted to assigned country colors...

Italy ... red
Germany ... silver
England ... green
France ... blue
USA ... white & blue (?)

Once Europe discovered 'sponsorship money'... that all disappeared. :laugh2:

Larry,
Generally speaking, yes but... that's discounting virtually all Indy cars that were never painted in national colors from their very first race... even the French cars that dominated the early events were often (but not always) dark blue, hardly the accepted "French Blue". Some of the British Sunbeams that ran at Indy were red. None of the Maserati 8CTF and others that were dominant just before the war were "Italian red", save for ONE driven by Luigi Villoresi... :)
And the only American cars in the day that sported "national" colors were the three Duesenbergs of which one won the French GP in 1921. Dan Gurney's 1967 Eagle can hardly be called as sporting national colors.
Generally speaking, national colors were relatively respected in Grand Prix racing and that was pretty much it. But even the German GP cars were white before the 1200kg formula, then had to be stripped of their paint to gain the 10lbs needed for them to be legal, making them... polished aluminum, coining the "silver arrows" appellation. After that, even the Auto Unions and virtually all German racing cars were painted silver, in violation of the accepted practice. The works Mercedes 300SL that won the GT class in the 1955 Mille Miglia was... black.
Of course and as you justly pointed, Colin Chapman was the first to break whatever tradition still existed in F1 with the red, white and gold "Gold Leaf" Lotus 49B in 1969.

And here I thought the Lace paint schemes came from France. Go figure. ;)

P,

I was referring to GP racing, not Indy. Many of those European Indy cars were sold to private owners, and commercialism was always at the forefront in America...

Noose,

Hey, you're either half right or half wrong depending on your outlook in life.

While the "Lace Paint Schemes" did not come from France, I'm sure that the unmentionables made from the lace that was used for the first slot car 'lace job' came from there!

Make that "Gold Leaf Team Lotus" and 1968, starting with the 49T in the Tasman series.

The JPS Lotus was black and gold.

Nope, it's for Brian's younger brother Joey Vickers!

I do believe they will be racing "British Style" oval racing. Check out the weight bias built into the paint scheme!

Hi,

Pursuing the colors IS part of the fun for historical schemes. The cars were sometimes in the colors of the driver or owner rather than manufacturer. Thus you have Maserati 250Fs in green, blue, silver with a blue and yellow stripe, white with blue, and so on.

My favorite story was a semi-myth. The myth was that the Moss family Maserati 250F was in the most NOT green paint that was labeled green because they didn't like the rules. The reality was they used war surplus stocks of RAF "Duck Egg Green" because it was the cheapest green on the market!

Then there were the Barkley Coopers!

And all Noose wants to do is just be beautiful, not obsessed!
