Damn, makes me want to revisit my own project. Yup, makes me want that real bad. Unfortunately, my racing schedule is interfering with my - hobby. Figure that one.

I can just see Scott Stoddard lowering himself all stiff-legged down into that thing! Well done!

I understand completely! I'm looking forward to a couple of series' ending soon, so I can build some more. Besides building "race" cars, I'd like to build a project car, too.

This arrived in my mailbox this week, and I am humbled. Thank you, Paul.
I won't have a chance to go play with it for a couple weeks, but it's really cool to have sitting here...here're a couple shots PJ didn't show, of the top of the sled:
See around the backside, where there's a .032" tray; pretty trick, huh? I wondered why go to the trouble of popping holes in the thing (wull, 'TRICK' of course, wha'ya think?) but then it's a nice platform for lead if needed. The wire forming is just - cool.
Good ol'-fashion plate droparm, with a downstop about far enough out there to allow for running on the track Randy Schmerkin's Dad built him - you know that one, the back straight changed altitude every time he moved it out of the garage, right?
We may want to start a discussion about how to do tyres, using curently-available stock. Warrants its own thread. I was PM'ing with Paul about the wisdom of rounding the sharp corners on tyres to prevent grabbing & chatter, and I'm betting there're lots more tricks we could chime in with. Chime, gentlemen?
Damn, what a cool model. ( - EDIT: I've used 'cool' like way too many times in this post. Deal with it, it's how I feel and it's my damn post anyhow.)
I'm struck with the "NOTHING'S Written in Stone" feel to this thing. There's this vibe of like hmmmm, how'll I put metal under this shell happening here, like sorta all-in-fun.
It's reminding me of what's always been my first reason for being here.
Thanks again, PJ, and I'm currently thinking up something even more quirky to bedevil you with!

Nice arrival in the mail Really is a neat idea using existing tires commercially available for this and other cars like it. Just by cutting off some sponge and there you have the right size period stuff !

Nice car Paul. Duffy is someone that will put it to good use.
Al,
Either you need to move here to Oregon or I need to move to Ontario! I can't wait to see your old school beauty

Thanks Rick.
I should mention that my Vac body is also smaller than the one you guys are showing. No way a 706/Ram will go in. 5-1/2" long and 1-15/16" over the fat part. Seems closer to 1/28 scale.
It also doesn't have the exhaust pipes molded in, just a molded indentation where they are supposed to go.

Duff, Did you drive it yet?
I'm always a little ashamed to have to respond to questions like this - uh, not yet.
I'm nowhere near a friendly track, and I seldom pull out my Scalie pieces - and right now I'm in the middle of furious thrashing for myself and another fellow, trying to put together TWO complete race campaigns of at least one car per class; so, no, I haven't had a chance to pop down and tear off some laps. I'll prolly take it along this weekend to FastTracks, 'tho I'd like to have a chance to set it up a little after its harrowing overland journey. (Any you guys remember the old radio Westerns? Whenever the announcer said "...the Wagon Train hastily drove into a circle..." I was the guy screaming at the radio "Look out for that CIRCLE!!...")
I'll post as soon as I have postable.
Same time, I'm intending to slap together a couple more Lost Cause-type cars for myself: a Maser Tipo 151 for sure, a couple others I'm dreamin' 'bout. Along with a couple of not-real-legal Jaildoor cars (yah, I hate the name too, Al, I've started referrin' to 'em as "RetroGate" - y'think it'll stick?) like this one-year-too-late Lotus 49:
