Yes, Mura/Lenz.  The light green motor has a Mura sticker.  The darker green motor has a similar armature.  Both motors have armature balancing holes.

Nice looking cars Rod.

One seems to have a drop arm and one doesn't: any difference in handling du to that?

Thanks Don.  Both cars handle about the same.  Really stable for such tall cars.  One key difference is the car with no drop arm has the front tires above the track.  The car with the drop arm has the front wheels touching the track and the drop arm is heavily weighted.

1968-70 was the beginning of the anglewinder era, and also, in my opinion, still a good era for home-built chassis.  It seems later on, to race competitively, a pro-built chassis was needed.  Of course with this, the cost of racing went up drastically, and you know the rest.

This car is representative of the home-built anglewinder era.  It has a chassis with a large motor angle and a heavy A-can Lenz motor.  The chassis design is not very elegant, but it is strong.  Plywood tracks ruled the day, and they were rough and bumpy.  Lots of chassis movement was needed.  A few different bodies were used on this chassis over the years.  The chassis now sports a reproduction McLaren Mk8 body from the parts box.

Cool car. Having can/drive on a car as early as this is pretty rare, but smart. Love the body and the wheels.

Car looks great. In Atlanta when we were racing those it would have had a diaplane along with the wraparound spoiler.

I have two of these, they are fast!  In the 70s I ran them in open class wing races at Jewett's Raceway. held on a PS powered track & won. I regeared them & ran them on shorter tracks in the 80s. One was an American Black, the other a modified Monarch, both at the Lowell, MA "Y".

Another chassis from Japan in this Corvette I assembled.  Note the brass differential unit, silicone rear tires and 36D motor.  The car drives very nice with the chassis that has a low mounted motor.

Another standout car Rod. Is that red striping paint or decals? It sure stands out.

Great looking car Rod - what body did you use?

That looks like an LS chassis, used in two cars: Ford GT and Porsche 904.

Hi Rodney,

That Corvette is gorgeous!

May I inquire as to the brand of Japanese chassis you put under the car please?

Thank you.

Ernie, Don Seigel correctly identified the chassis as an LS.  Thanks Don.  Here are a couple of more pictures.  The differential unit was reamed from 3mm to 1/8" to fit the standard threaded stub axles.

Wow! Beautiful car! This has to be one of my favorites. I would have to put one of those gold 48 pitch Weldun spurs on though.

The Mk6 has always been my favorite McLaren racecar. I like how that Cox chassis has been reinforced with a few well-placed brass rods. Nice car Rodney.

Rick wanted to see the Shadow I built around 1970.  Factory painted Kovacs body and B-can powered.  Gears and rear tires are not original.  The car had a Cox spur gear.

Very short wheelbase.

Here is a Dynamic brand McLaren Mk8D I painted with TCL around 1971.  MPC decals from a model kit were used. This body was not very popular back then because it is only 3 1/16" wide.  Other bodies that came out a bit later were at least 1/16" wider.  The McLaren looks nice though.

I made a simple four rail chassis.  The motor is a C-can and Riggen wheels are used.  Eric remembers this car.  Nice driving car.
