Today we had a grown man crawl on his hands and knees under the lead-on to go into the infield to fix a fallen off car in the dead man (on a King Cobra). Parents sometimes need help with knowing how to slot car race.

The WOMPS are a growing class of racing in the Carolinas. Several tracks have started weekly WOMP programs, and big races are being run in the Carolinas and Georgia, including state championship races dating back to 2015. Here are some links to news, information, rules, products, etc.

Do adults race Womps too, or only the kids?

At my local track, it's only kids, except for occasionally a "Parents Race" when they end early.

I'm trying to find out what Womp stands for or even Womp-Womps? Does anyone know?

Depends on the track, if you can get enough adults to race why wouldn't the track do it. when I started racing in the '80s the answer was yes. We were all mixed in. I was 14 and most likely the youngest in the group. I won a few times. Most of the guys where in their 20s.

I don't think Womp, or Womp-Womp is an acronym for anything. I've always heard it was the sound these cars made when they hit the wall. :)

Yes, when we had a local commercial raceway in this area, adults raced Womps, as did some of the kids. Some of the bodies were pretty ugly, but some of them were pretty nice, too.

We always thought the name came from the sound of them hitting the wall, too.

I plan on starting a Womp class up here soon. Just trying to decide on the best motor to run.

A few years back (8-10), there some great-looking modified and super modified bodies that fit a Womp chassis. These probably came from REHCo, but I don't know if they're still available. If old coupes and sedans interest you, the former Champion Legend bodies are still available from Parma.

I would think "best motor" would depend on your track layout and its powering. As a personal opinion, I would think under-powered Womps would make for better racing that over-powered cars would. I used to hear about an X12 powered Womp class, but I had no interest.

I would say the JK Mini Brute would be pretty good, or even the JK Hawk 25, depending on the track size

The Hawk 25 is a bit sleepy, but I just got in some Mini Brutes to try.

We ran JK HRs in WFPJR's Womp race. The cars were 3.250" wide so that helped handle the power. Everyone had a blast. The Wing car guys enjoyed it the most. They were some of the top runners.

Only change to the rules I would make is allowing some reinforcement in the weak spots. If you got nerfed in the bank you were behind the wall for adjustments.

The WOMP are growing more popular, and it is mostly adults racing them. The AWRA     holds races from coast, and recently had three national flexi champions in an event in California. There is an upcoming event in your state on Feb. 24, 2018 at Speed & Hobby Shop in Beckley, WV. It pays $300,00 to win in the Legends class. Check the AWRA page or email the AWRA at awrainfo@yahoo.com for information.
