Most guys are running 4.5 - 4.8 on the King Cobra. My car weighs 115Grms I have a F7 tried 9/27,28,29 Best time 5.1 Gear mush is done as the other thread says to do it. I have a heat sink on the F7, Gets way too hot and I'm sure it will not finish a race. I am using .825 tires Treated. The motor is fresh and broke in like I do all my F7 with great results. Am I missing some thing how can a F7 take that much load? Or am I geared wrong?

Is the Crown gear on the "correct" side of the motor? The teeth on the Crown gear should be facing the drivers side of the car.

And if your car is a Can-Am...it sounds a bit on the heavy side for a King Cobra.

Thanks Ron, I have to change the gear plus I would have to change the wiring also right? What weight should I be looking for with a Can-Am or a Retro Coupe?

I would say I have seen weights about 90-105g at BP. But then I'm always paying to much attention to talking about this and that. :laugh2: You could always add weight! ;)

Baxter,

The F7 gets wired just like any other angle winder. So the F-7 is in your inline and a wire is going from the right side of the guide to the right side of the then yes you will have to change the wires. Depending on how banked the cobra is 115 is definitely on the heavy side.

A motor is only as fast as the chassis it's in.

Boy, you guys have me all confused :laugh2:
Ron, my Can Am drivers sit on the right hand side of the cockpit. My F1 drivers sit in the center.

If your Falcon 7 is running hot, assuming all other things are correct like gear mesh, go down to an 8 pinion.

As far as which wire goes on which side, it depends on which way the motor is placed in the car :) It could be right or left. The rotation is clockwise at can end, and the red dot is positive. :prankster2:

I don't see how I can get the car any lighter unless I put holes in the chassis, I will strip the car down and see where all the weight is coming from and trim it down some kind of way. I will post a pic today.

On my Retro GT Coupes, I gear my Falcon 7 at 8:27... My GT Coupes generally weigh in at about 112 to 114 gms. On a flexi car (JK C11) with 0.76" dia tires, I run 12 on a 36 ( 3 to 1). With the heavier retro cars using 0.82" dia tires, you should be running around 3.25 to 3.4 to 1...

Making the car lighter may help but I don't buy the theory that is what is making it run slow and hot. IRRA Stock Cars use F7 motors and min weight is 120. They run just fine.

Well I will drop a tooth on the pinion, My driver is on the right side of the car and that's the way my teeth on the crown is facing do I still need to switch it? At 9/27 it ran 5.1 but like was said maybe I'm geared too low. As it stands its geared 3.111:1

Take the body off the car and the right side is the right side as in a real car here in the U.S.A.

With the Falcon 7 moto.... the crown gear teeth should be facing the left side of the car.

The armature spins clock wise direction if the motor is in upside down or not.

Baxter,

Here's a couple of photos that should eliminate and right side, left side, driver's side confusion.

I hope this gets your gear on the proper side and your wiring connected properly.

:D Baxter IMO a 9 tooth pinion on a Falcon 7 is way too much gear---try an 8 or even a 7 tooth. I don't know how long the track is that you are racing on but even on a fast king I always use an 8 on a falcon.

:D Every change you make no matter how big or how small makes a difference. These things are just the basics that have to be right to get the fastest lap times. I also suggest having one of the guys running the fast lap times drive your car to see what they can get out of it.

Lol easier said then done, the fast guys did no building all have had their cars built and ready to race.I'm on my own. There is a guy or two that comes to race every now and then, but that's hit or miss.

I would suspect this is part of your problem? How fast can you go through the doughnut, deadman or any other turn?

Why is that a problem, Rob? I'm always willing to learn something new. :) I'll be the first to admit that I know next to nothing about what makes a chassis work or not.

No that's not the chassis that I am running I have a samurai 3.0 And it handles very well ,but me knowing motors the heat is not good and the motor will not last. So 1 I'm trying to see why its getting so hot. 2 see what I have done wrong

Run on 8 on a 28T crown gear. You will get slightly better brakes and more punch out of the corners. It will be a more "racable" package car for you.

Are you running bushings or ball bearings? This may be obvious but make sure the rear axle (with wheels attached) and the gear not meshed spins very free. These lower horsepower motors need all the help they can get.

And I will echo the gearing change...8 x 27 or 28 would be a good starting point for an F7. Hopefully the motor has not seen too much heat.

Of course, it could just be a dog motor. I haven't had much luck with Falcons lately, and prefer the TSR D3 motor (those get geared with a 9T pinion)

Cars at BP run nines or tens. Motor heat and slowness is from running the motor backwards. There is too much timing built in the Falcon 7 motor to run well in the wrong direction. Falcon 2's have almost no timing built in so they can go in either direction.
