Question John is it possible to make one that is tapered before the motor bracket is solder in?
Between motor bracket and the front piece, I hope you get what I mean?

I understand you're kidding, but just in case...the postage would cost more than the piano wire Nesta. You can make as many as you want that taper in any way you want in no time... quicker than even asking here if there is such a thing as tapered piano wire. :)

The one pictured was made before the motor bracket was soldered in. This all is dead easy, and I'm certainly no bigtime chassis builder. Minimal tools, skill and time required.

Wouldn't Nesta's idea be similar to the old brass tubing with piano wire inside? You know, flex and spring. :dance4: I believe Don Siegel told me he used to do that.

John, I was not kidding. Anyway when I build one I will have the tapered part after the motor bracket for a half inch to a inch, then back to normal size, I guess it would have a soft spot on the main rail!
If you get my drift? :)

D'you think your drift would behave different in any fundamental way from this?

Then you should make some Nesta. For anyone doing "scratchbuilding", this is a ridiculously easy thing and it's better even than if you could buy tapered piano wire because you can do the tapering any way you want...even have the wire taper and then "untaper" back to original width along it's length. Try it, you could have already made a dozen tapered rails and maybe even go into the Tapered Rail Supply business. Now if you were asking about making one of those Rick Thigpen or Steve O'Keefe anglewinder motor boxes...then I'd say you actually had a real problem.
