Pittman,
Remind the 'kids' not to drop that one on their toe.
I don't do Photoshop-ping but a Pittman Precision 'shingle' would look right on the house... LOL.

Hi Pitt,
Excellent detective work, and a very impressive motor.

Those pics in post #21 remind me of something I've seen at the Hoover Dam... or maybe in the basement (dynamo room?) of the Empire State building...

Twelve, highest I could count to ... and ... No I'M NOT rewinding it ... LOL
It's a Pittman DC-105
and... it could have been used for the landing gear on a DC-8.

Hmmm .... a worm gear set up like an old Atlas HO? 4 WD?
Titchy, Twitchy and Tippy.

Even though the DC-105 is brand new, ... figured... when I saw them .... I'd pick up a pair of NOS brushes for 4 bucks.
With 2 sets of brushes (and an ink pen eraser) I think it could run at 6 volts for about 50 years.
Solar panel and batteries ... it becomes the "Survivalist Motor". ... or generator

You know, this whole "Monster Motor" concept makes me think of a couple of possible classes for the next Shootout. Consider this:
1. Monster Motor class, brings back images of 1:1 cars with Allisons, Turbines. Jets, etc.
Could include any Pittman Boatmasters, DC-105s, train motors, early KTMs and anything out of a '60s vehicle that can be re-purposed. Specifically excludes RC type motors, 540s, etc., that's too easy. Think '60s technology!
2. Mega Motor class, bring back the days of multi engines after the nitro ban.
Could include any motor in the existing "approved motor" list but there must be 2 or more functional motors driving the car.
I think the cars that I have seen that are quite inspiring are Rodney's "Big Al" without a doubt, and Roar's cars as well. I don't care how fast they are, they are truly innovative. Just my opinion, please chime in.....

I agree there is room for this ... the Monster Motor cars are great !
The Mega-Multi is currently open to multi in Unlimited, Can motors have been banned but I don't see any reason Monster Can boat motors should be.
Owner pays all shipping costs ...
So ... Monsters are Alllowed in Unlimited. We'll match'um up for now and If we get enough entries it will run as it's own expansion class.
Posted 02 July 2015 - 08:47 PM
I don't think these "beasts" would be competitive at all in unlimited, but I think I will build something if I can find a suitable motor.
Posted 02 July 2015 - 08:59 PM
The cool thing is Rods & Rails a place to run'em ..
Of course in a Battle of the Beasts they will get special attention. We will run them off as a side show inside the Unlimited show like the H/O cars did .... we could have plaques for Multi and Monster too.
Motto: Build it, Run it. have Fun.

That second one looks very scary David, kind of like an early atomic bomb...
If this category goes ahead, I'm actually thinking of sending in my AC motor powered special - would that work?

So maybe we should have a "Nuclear class" ?

That "nuke" is one of the Olson/Pittmans currently on ebay...kinda looks like a 9003 less the cover and mount??? It's up to Bob, but I'd say if it fits, looks '60s and is otherwise harmless???
