I got a box of 1/32 scale stuff from a buddy here on the forum. ;)

Along with a few really used items, was a pretty clean Monogram Ford Roadster slot car body. I think I read it takes a special chassis for this car. I was just wondering if anyone had pics of a complete Lil Deuce car and chassis. I don't remember ever seeing one myself.

I'm hoping to find some more parts to put the thing together.

So nobody has a pic of the chassis, or a complete car? I'd really like to put this thing together.

I have the chassis... maybe we can work a deal...?

I do not have the rest of it. I'll post a pic.

Barny,

On your chassis the guide is mounted upside down... This chassis has the motor UNDER itself, not above, otherwise the Ford body will not mount on it... This is the only Monogram kit to use this bizarre chassis. :D

Cool. I sure didn't know it was an upside-down chassis!

Strange little car, eh?

Sure is cute though. I'm guessing it wasn't a very popular car, as I don't think I've ever seen one on ePay. I was kinda hoping I had a chassis in some of my stuff, but I don't think so.

I had one of those a long time ago. Mine must have been an early edition because it did not have a drop flag and the flag was mounted behind the front axle. Thing handled like dog-doo.

Hugh,

There is only one edition and indeed this wire drop arm was added by someone along the way. The original chassis has no drop arm, just a guide tongue ("tounge" for the ones who can't spell their own names) that was cut off on the example shown above. :)

LOL Hugh... I guess with the negative guide lead it would be a pig! :shok:

I'm still hoping someone out there has some pics of the car. I'd like to piece this thing together, because it sure is cute!

Or broken off.

Dokk... ya got pics of a complete car?

This little car just has piqued my interest. I'd really like to get it put together.

Barney has said I can get the chassis he posted, but looks like I'll need more stuff to finish it.

Anyone got the parts to finish this little hot rod?

BTW... I can spell, I just can't type!

Looking in my (extensive) files, I found that I failed to take any pictures of either the Little Deuce or the MGA kits!

I will try accommodating you next weekend.

Would I be correct that the #66 car in the picture is Rotor powered? Long time ago but I believe NASCAR banned the rotary engine as they were better for the same displacement?

Jeff, maybe search eBay's model car section for the Duece Roadster. There will be a tremendous number of items but eBay's search works pretty well.

I sort of believe that car used an exposed flathead Ford motor that Monogram dressed up with some speed equipment. I think. :)

Dokk,

I'm thinking in either the Mini Stock (1600cc) or Baby Grand National (2300cc) division. That would have been in the mid-'70s, past my "accurate memory" boundary. I know for sure that NASCAR banned the Volkswagen in the Baby Grands. SCAT spent a lot of time and money trying to beat the Offy-powered Midget cars with a VW engine. The VWs had a pretty good edge on other 2300 engines at that time. NASCAR leveled the field later by allowing ONLY the 200 CFM Holley carburetor for two or three years. That was barely enough air for a lawn mower!

Not very fast, but it ran not to bad. Found the YouTube video:

After 3m40s you'll see it on the track.

If the wheels with the red-painted centers as in Chris's picture are "standard" for the Deuce, I have a set.

Chris, very nice video!

The wheels were plain aluminum with no inserts, like in all the late 1964 Monogram slot car kits in both 1/24 and 1/32 scale.

Chris,

Thanks for the pics and the video. That is a cute lil car! I'll have to keep looking for stuff to put this one together. :D

Don, yes, it is a rotary-powered Mazda R-100 auto-cross car. 948cc 10A rotary engine. Most of my race cars, and all my street cars until recently, were Mazda rotaries, including my tow vehicle.

And, yes, rotaries have been restricted or banned in many forms of racing.

Back in the mid-'80s, I got the local dirt track to allow the rotary engine in mini-stock. I ran a Mazda RX-2 for half a dozen races that year with a stone-stock engine, with little success, on weekends that I was not road racing the RX-3. The next season, a fellow came down with a tube frame mini-stocker, with a built rotary, and won every race that year except the first one, where he had a radiator hose come loose. The following season the rule book, in big bold letters, said "NO ROTARY ENGINES". And that was that for the rotaries there.

Great video! It's funny... even though they are not speaking the King's English you can tell by the sounds and the "banter" these guys are slot racers! Those little cars are jetting!

Thanks for the pics and video, guys. I know Jeff will want to see these.

Cool, Don... in the pic you can just see a glimpse of the tow vehicle attached to the trailer. It's a Mazda REPU (Rotary Engine Pick Up).

It's now the same Impulse Blue as all the rest of my race cars. Over half a million miles, and ready for more! ;)

I did forget to mention the video. Looks like every one was having a great time! And what a neat place to race! Cool track, too! A bunch of neat little cars, too!

Was that the Thingie Kingie (Edo) I spied there?
