Mike,

That's kind of what I expected it to do, but figured it was still worth a try. The geometry isn’t really optimized for that material, wall thickness are too thin. I’m glad to hear it last at least good for a “hot lap”. Any thoughts on trying a metal guide tongue support?

With the jellyfish car seeming to be too soft, it left me with a "quick" set of parts to put together a "regular" material chassis.
Sano Dave, Manta Ray and Chuck were missing but in the still strong full field,I took the win with a real solid 146 laps including
finishing with 3-19's(including Black) and an 18.
The hastily added 1/4" and 1/2" .032 brass got the weight up to fairly ideal 132G.
The car was terrific. Maybe just one small notch below a top scratchbuilt piano wire and brass frame.

Bob,
Thanks for all the WOW!'s, but from my first post:
It's a Chicagoland Raceway exclusive, but at the moment, they are not for sale.

I am working on something else, that while not so radical, should perform exceptionally well and
will be available to everyone, and probably at a real nice price.

Mike first of all what scale is it and will it be made in 1:24 or 1:32? If they are also made for 1:32 I will be all over it and I hope there will be some adjustments for the different body types out there?
I might be way ahead of head at this time.
Sure would like to know the applications for this chassis type and what they are designed for?
Meaning what type of scale and what dimensions are we talking about?
I always looking for new types of chassis and this is so promising for me.

If you look at the pics with the inline Falcon II motor, it should be pretty
obvious it's 1/24th.

I still have no idea where this is going to go but it does allow a lot
of experimenting, before committing to say a high volume, molded chassis.

Well because you're going to need "memory" in your plastic material to maintain a "flat" chassis--you'll need to experiment with more carbon/glass filled nylon plastics in your mix. This is a very similar problem the RC cars had in the 70's as they developed nylon chassis materials in RC> Enjoy--it looks like a very fun project!! You might contact Cliff Lett at Associated RC cars in Lake Forest Ca.--he may be a very good source of information on molded plastic materials--he's been designing cars for Associated for over 25 years. Sorry, It’s been a while…

Here’s the latest installment of a “3D printed” chassis, this time it’s a Can-Am car. There are a couple neat little tuning features incorporated into this one, the side to side and front to back pan movement is adjustable as well as provisions for (2) .062” rails that can be inserted to reduce the amount of chassis flex (locked in place with set screws). The finished car with no weight added should come in at about 110 grams. I ran the first two prototypes on the Objet machine today in a clear resin and will be checking parts for fit this evening. I should have a working car ready for testing this weekend. Full test report to follow…

This is a fantastic idea!

A plastic chassis designed around 1/24 scale commercial tire sizes AND motors intended to be used underneath a Lexan 4" body.

I'm incredibly jazzed to see just how this works.

Steve:

The PDF that you can rotate the object on the X, Y, and Z axis is a nice touch. Along with turning parts turning parts on or off. I didn't know that was available to do with PDFs. :good:

Could this be the future of slot racing scratchbuilding? Who would have thought in the mid-'60s that the hobby would get so "Star Treky" when so many of us were just introduced to the hobby. And we thought a Dremel and a soldering iron was the only way to go! Great stuff.

Maybe in an effort to get more and new people involved have a racing contest like the "Dynamic Challenge" in format, SAE car competition in colleges, and even Pinewood Derby and Soapbox Derby at a younger age to bring students of this 21st century way of doing things and exposing them to the slot racing hobby.

Track owners? Are there four year or two year programs in colleges near you that have instructional programs based on this 3D CAD/CAM work that you could work in conjunction their instructors with by offering track time, manufacturers offer for sale motors, controller, guide, and tires in a spec kit form so to speak much like the Soapbox Derby that the students would purchase for a race at the end of the school year or quarter with awards for design/ingenuity, beauty of industrial design (concours), and of course race winners with slot racers of their own design built within a specified criteria.

We are always looking for new and different people for the hobby and what a better place to start than with young people who have embraced the digital age and a slot racing venue to connect their digital concept to the "real world". Just a thought.

Thanks, John, I’ll see you there...

Though I’m going to be very rusty, I haven’t really raced since last year's Sano.

Isn’t technology cool! Glad you like it. I wanted to attach a 3D PDF of the assembled car but the file was too large.

I agree...

Many possibilities with this one...

A 'spec' alternative to the European-style model car 'nut & bolt' chassis that could appeal to the current 1/32 plastic car folks. A possible 1/24 class for the OVRL series Justin?

The basis for an 'entry level' Retro class since it is based on in-line technology...

I'm assuming it will accept FK, Pro Slot, Scale Auto, Fox etc. size motors...

Looks neat... ;)
