That is just beautiful.

If it works on the track... even better.

Track Report:

Last Saturday I got in some track time at Chicagoland Raceway with the new chassis (and some pre-Sano practice and weekly club racing, too). Race weight for the finished car was a little lighter than expected, just under 102 grams. For the initial test I left the car as-is and the set-up was exactly the same as my Retro Can-Am car as far as ride height, tires, motor, and gearing.

First impression on the King track was ultra-smooth and super quiet. The plastic/resin material has a completely different dynamic compared to a metal constructed car, the plastic seems to absorb the noise and vibration as opposed to metal which magnifies it. Within the first five laps I was running lap times within a couple tenths of my brass car (on orange lane). It was very consistent and the chassis didn't “unload” when exiting the turns the way my brass car does (probably because of the difference in torsional stiffness). Unfortunately the chassis came out much more rigid than anticipated and did not work near as well in the gutter lanes, it was a little loose. But overall I’m very pleased with its performance on the first attempt. I have a list of changes and tweaks I’m going to make to the CAD this week and should have a revised car very soon.

For those inquiring about availability, I have no intention of going into mass production as of now. Down the road if I can figure out a cost effective way to produce them I will definitely be making a small run.
Stay tuned...
