Thank you, Philippe. I have a couple of more questions: Does the motor bracket pivot? And is the can bearing the down stop? That's what it looks like to me.

Neat cars. How do they handle?

I am not a doctor, but I played one as a child with the girl next door.

Indeed the motor mount pivots. This was the invention of an Italian racer by the name of Pizzi, and it is called the "Pizzi Joint". Both Unicar and Mini Dream exploited this true advantage that provided greater traction under full acceleration.

As far as their handling, there is no production-based car that can stay with them. Both the Unicar and the Mini Dream would spank ANY American production RTR or kit produced at the same time, but remember that by the time these were made, there were few American companies left on the market, and these Italian cars would have to compete against hand-built anglewinder machines that would have given them a run for their money.

The Fleischmann chassis is about the only other that can compete with these.

Mike,

The Aerodynamica has a very short wheelbase so the guide is not as far out there as it looks...

Here is the same chassis over a Ferrari P4:

Philippe,
The front part of that chassis has been shortened.
On my Aerodinamica the distance from center of flag to center of back axle is 128mm.
Originally there were three holes for the flag in the front part.

The maximum possible distance from center to cener is a whopping 141 mm.The front part of the chassis has three holes for the axle who also acts a pivot between the two part of the chassis.
The picture of the Aerodinamica in the LASCM shows clearly the 128mm. wheelbase
Hope the post was not too confusing.

Here, for the delight of Philippe, the very scarce Mercedes 230 SL body from Unicar:

Whooo, let's not mix things here! :) The Tarf was a mid-1950 twinn-boom vehicle built by famous racer Piero Taruffi around a Gilera motorcycle engine so as to set some speed records.

The OSI Bisiluro was built from an Alpine-Renault A110 Berlinetta sports coupe...

This as well as the Mercedes 230SL, were just issued as body kits, never issued as a RTRs or in full kits. So the chassis could be a standard Unicar plastic job or anything one would fancy. :)

If I may,
I think I can clarify. The original bisiluro is indeed the Tarf designed by Piero Taruffi.
The OSI prototype was called Silver Fox and was designed with input from Piero Taruffi.
As Taruffi's nickname was "La volpe argentata" (The silver fox) the link is clear.
