Love to find some 1/32 "jalopy" bodies! Keep going!!

Tim, they're not exactly 1/32 scale, but Parma still produces the former Champion Legend bodies that fit womp type chassis. There is 5 or 6 different coupes & sedans. Some look better than others. :)

Hope to secure the Jet Flag post with a thin Duffy Classic replica weight, if it fits under the axle. I think it will but we shall see.

The word on the street is, Duffy is notoriously hard to get stuff out of--temperamental, forgetful and flakey. I don't like to speak ill of folks, but from what I hear I'd steer clear of the guy. Just a heads-up, yknow.

Is that how you feel today, Duffmaster ? :)

Funny how one develops a "feel" for a build.....this little chassis, for example, I didn't car what the solder joints looked like, I just want the car to work well. Function over form. I do, however, have high hopes for the body paint.

Stay tuned, Duffy, because this one will be special :laugh2:

Well, I know for a fact, he may come across all Liberal and inclusive, but down deep he's secretly a lifelong anti-Semant. You can't trust guys like that.

Just like Maury Povich on TV : "You ARE the Father" ....... You are NOT the Father" :laugh2:
"It FITS"......"It does NOT FIT" :dash2: In fact, it will NOT fit. The screw method only took me about an hour to perfect.

Now, where is that doggone Slot-It allen wrench ? :)

IRRA fronts have been trimmed to .720 to provide >.032 rear clearance. Kelly front wheel assembly has been soldered home to provide .032 clearance.

Wow.
Pablo, I do not believe you have room left in that chassis for it to even roll forward in the slot. Before you spend any more work on what may be a heartbreaker, I suggest you give it a tentative push. You know--just in case.

Looks nice---but isn't it wired backwards?? Positive should be on the right side of the pick up?

Hi Tim,
MiniBrute/Bullit motors are timed pretty neutral. Some spin slightly faster one way and others the other way.
It is wired correctly.
Thanks for checking, though :)

I managed to put pans on the car, but it was not without price. Tony P. once said "Nothing is easy for pablo" :laugh2: Today that was true again...... The 45 year old body was never intended for a chassis like this. There is not enough room on the skirts to mount using pin tubes. I made it work anyway, but it involved a lot of extra work. One of the tubes actually had to be ground down for clearance.

DSC04504.JPG

Once I thought everything was OK to harpoon the holes then paint, the body was flopping up when pinned. So, I had to belt sand 20 thou from each side of the pans to alleviate that. If I push the pins in all the way, it still flops up, so I'll have to deal with that. Since the holes had such a narrow window of opportunity for the holes, I had to add some Lexan to one of the mounting areas, using double sided wing body tape, and a little Krazy Glue.

DSC04507.JPG

Soooo, after 2 nights of fighting, I think I am ready to paint this little bugger. No telling how the extra Lexan area will look. I hope it will be OK.

One question: do HO scratchbuilders us miniature soldering irons? :laugh2:

Bill, you crack me up :laugh2: A minitorch would flame out the entire project in one sweeping motion of the torch :bomb:
As soon as this little bugger is done, I'm back to my 1/24 vintage world as fast as possible hehhehehehe
Stand by for more pics. The "skirt" did not cooperate very well during the paint phase, but I'm trying to mitigate the damage :dash2:
Don't try this (customizing a pan floppy chassis for a .98 cent Shark body) at home, kiddies, it ain't as easy as it looks LOL

The camera makes the color look orange. It's actually a nice bright red, Pactra acrylic, backed up with Faskolors white.

Good, Bill. Now my biggest problem is the Lexan strip did not survive the painting process well.
I removed it, and now I am left with a strip of confused body along the "skirt".
Tomorrow, I will overcome, and adapt. :laugh2:

Thought of a lot of ways to fix the glitch in the one pin hole area being too short. Finally decided to modify a ninja star and 2 part clear epoxy it to the skirt. Worked pretty well. 2 coats of red and 2 coats of white touch up paint, now she dries for a night and should be ready to go tomorrow.

I misspoke; the fronts are JK, not Kelly, flexi type wheels.

I was unable to make the body repair work, so I'm just going to mount this one with some filament tape as a temp measure so I can track test it on 21 Jan. If it runs good, I'll paint a new body for it.

Anyway, it's ready to be tested. Driver looks a little like a pudgy PdL, what do you think ?

The poor tiny neglected '37 Chevy Coupe Legend car was just gathering dust on the infield of The Dungeon track.

I oiled 'er up and took 'er for a spin. 4 year old flat spotted tires had no traction, and one of the pans wasn't tilting.

But she still ran like a scalded ape, so back to The Wolcott Ranch for a cleaning, tune up, and improvements.

WD-40 freed up the frozen pan hinges.

I slipped a pair of .050 Koford pin tubes on the .032 bite bars to reduce pan tilt and droop. Before:

After:

Cleaning and a coat of Mop n Glow freshened up the Shark body.

She needed more grip, so I made wider new rear wheels with a pair of inserts to fancy her up.

She's ready to return to The Dungeon
