Trying not to describe the wing in too much detail as I don't want to "spoil" (pun intended) the surprise for others
Not sure if folks are still using the liquid glue that we used back then - I think it was from Testors - came in a bottle, was clear and water-like, had an applicator brush attached to the screw-off cap. Worked great for attaching the spoilers to the bodies....

I'm going to take just a little poetic license here based on my available materials and skills (or lack thereof ).
I really hope you'll like it .

Thickness - I don't really know - definitely thicker than a business card - I thought it was about the same thickness as what the bodies were made from. I would buy it as clear sheet at the local hobby shop.
Looking forward to seeing the car you betcha!

Yes indeed... still the same stuff and we use it all the time! Not sure if folks are still using the liquid glue that we used back then - I think it was from Testors - came in a bottle, was clear and water-like, had an applicator brush attached to the screw-off cap. Worked great for attaching the spoilers to the bodies...
Fred, missed you at the Auto Show.

I got lucky over the Christmas holidays and scored a real deal Russkit body and interior . Time for me to do some painting. Here the body is scuffed up, masked off and ready for some Testors enamel:
I sprayed the gloss orange first followed by a yellow backer and finally did the rocker panels and the rest of the body in flat aluminum:
The interior was a problem in that several areas were so thin you could see through them . There were splits and holes to deal with too. I brushed on a thin coat of epoxy over the back side of the whole interior and painted it flat black. That solved the problem:
My favorite part of the project came when Fred Larimer sent me a sketch of how he mounted a wing on his McLaren...in 1966 :
He used all clear plastic sheet but I did mine with styrene and piano wire because that's what I felt comfortable with:
The wing still needs the TEAM RUSSKIT decals. They will be coming from Pattos Place soon:
The back side of the wing and those big honk'n pipes :
The interior:
Here's a few more shots of the finish (almost) car:
A couple of details. I made the LARIMER labels with this:
I ended up adding some I's in front and back of the name to help keep the cuts straight. It worked pretty well:
The Russkit body had mounting holes punched in it to mount it on their Carrera chassis. It looked like they used a 16 penny nail :
After painting I backed up the hole with tape and filled it with 5 minute epoxy. Then a sponsor decal hides it without it showing through:
I can't wait to get the TEAM RUSSKIT on the wing and take her to Eddie's .
Thanks for all the input Fred and for letting me put your name on the car. It is really special to work on a car with the help of Pros like you. Thank you

I never get tired of seeing your repros!
Remember, two wrongs don't make a right... but three lefts do! Only you're a block over and a block behind.

I really love the R&C era cars. Thanks to all for your support. It's really fun to do my best to recreate all those cool cars and "see them move".
Great hobby, great people, thanks.

Rick -
I am honored and humbled. You would not believe the smile when I saw the photos of your car! There is but one thing - well, OK maybe two things - left.
Me to come up to Valencia, meet you and shake your hand and stare in awe at these incredible cars that you have crafted.
And you to DRIVE this one!
Incredible. Simply INCREDIBLE!

I can't believe it's been over a year since I stopped work on this project to order Team Russkit decals from Patto's Place. Well, better late than never .
So, here's the finishing touch on Fred's tribute car...TEAM RUSSkit on the wing:
Fred, thanks again for your help and everyone's input. It really made this a fun and special project for me.
