Who or where was the first slot race to be on a webcam???

I would have liked to think I had something to do with it, since I did "LiveTiming" for the Danish Plafit championship on Feb 26, 2008.

However thinking about it I know that Lars Harrisson had a webcam on the Lapcounter as early as Aug 7, 2004 for the ISRA world championship in Hjarup, Sveden. It wasn't successful though as it wasn't readable and did not have the capacity, but of course it was the right idea.

The complete LapMaster package with LiveTiming, UStream webcam, and chat was put together for the first time for the Wing car championship in Dallas, Texas, in July 2010. We had then worked since Nov. 2009 polishing it to what it became.

Yep, the first "Retro" race on webcam.

Not sure of the specific year off the top of my head but I am thinking it was a ISRA Worlds race a couple of years before 2007 and maybe it was the race in Sweden '04 or Malta '05??? I remember watching Gawronski winning Euro 24 on webcam in Italy in '06.

Ray,

I think was the next year or 3. I know it wasn't the first year, 2007, which is when IRRA™ was formed, right? Or am I getting senile?

OK, I admit I was fishing.

I'm pretty sure I did the first "Retro" webcam, at Sano 2 0r 3.

There's were many other webcams before I did mine. And, as guys here in the south will know, we played with webcams from Abbeville and other places.

We have to get slot car racing in front of more eyeballs. If we can show people what we do using technology, we'll get new participants.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I think it was Sano 2. You had my laptop too and it was all up on the perch. That was where the group pic was taken too from that location.

Noose,

I think you're right.

It tickles me that Mike McM and Carsten have taken it to a higher level. We needed this.

Kudos to Philippe and the others that ensure the blog runs smoothly.

Mill,

Thanks, and most of the kudos have to go to Greg Wells. While it was my idea to create it and get it going, Greg is now my 50% partner in this forum, and thanks to his technical expertise and the great amount of time he has spent on its organization and refinements, Slotblog is now very popular and gaining all the time in popularity with the hobbyists.

I cannot stress enough his awesome contribution to the success of this forum, and am happy that so many now have chosen it to express their love for our hobby.

I am thinking it was Sano 3 was the first Sano webcast. I wasn't at Sano 2 and remember it being webcasted at Sano 3... the last year Mike was in the old location.

I don't recall there being a webcast from Sano 2.

Well, I think if someone took a look in the archives here at Slotblog, we could nail it down.

I ain't got the time or inclination to do it, to be honest. LOL!

Slorblog? LOL

I think it was 2009 for the first Ustream broadcast of the Sano.

Was there a webcast of a Retro race at Mark Greene's before that?

OK, I fixed it. I woulda seen it sooner or later...

You may be right about Mark's; I simply don't know or remember. Not a big deal.

And Ron, I think you got it right... the last year in Mike's old place. That rings a bell. Because I still haven't seen the new place.

Can I claim that I have occasionally utilized and frequently advocated video to promote the hobby? And further to state that recent events have confirmed that opinion?

LOL!!

OK since this thread has already drifted a little farther won't hurt - while trying to get back to sleep last night I happened across an episode of Stacey Davids Gearz on Speed (if anybody is interested it shouldn't be hard to find they repeat incessantly) that billboarded the new state of slot cars - they brushed lightly on history and ended up talking about and showing Carrera cars and sets. They interviewed a Carrera Rep and finished with crashing cars with sound effects and the host giggling as usual.

Gee, it might be better to stay underground.

One of my customers got a call at the raceway last night from a friend and was told about it, so that's how I heard about it.

I was still up for the rebroadcast at midnight.

I've met Dave Kennedy and he's a nice guy, but agreeing with Rick, he should have talked them out of that last sequence with just a bunch of crashing with one car piling up into another.

With a race of the size and quality of the R4/5, there may soon be some interest in the event from shows like Gearz. It isn't out of the question and maybe I'll see if I can't push a few buttons in that arena.

i think that the Retro Can-Am class should always be run on Saturday. What is the point of having the "premier class" on Sunday when no one is there at the final? There are barely enough to turn marshal. Everyone is burnt out and leaves early.

Let the F1 be on Sunday. It is a no-brainer.

It sure sounds like a better way to do it to me.

I was very surprised to be able to watch the Can-Am final almost in its entirety after arriving home at about a quarter to nine PM Sunday night.

If Can-Am continues to draw more entries than F1, making for a longer race day, makes a lot of sense to run that class on Saturday.

Not practical for Da Sano. Saturday has GT Coupe and F1. Only way to do it would be eliminate JK Spec on Friday or the flat track races (which make the Sano unique :) ) and I don't think either of those options will happen. Can-Am on Sunday gets done about 5:00 PM anyway.

I am sure Mike will chime in on this soon.
