My hobbies change, sometimes daily or by the minute.
So for a period today... a little bit of this was good.

Music... mainly classic rock but a little of everything. I was a typical teenage rock star wannabe but was too lazy to see it through. When I was in my late 30's, I decided I'd finally follow through, learn some songs from beginning to end, and play in front of an audience. I did and made about a dozen or so appearances at open-mic nights in the Houston area. Then I let it slide for another 20 years until recently. Once I was diagnosed with an advanced case of prostate cancer(cancer-free now), it was a wakeup call that if you're waiting to do something in life, you're wasting time. So, I bought my first electric guitar of real quality, albeit the bargain basement model Gibson Les Paul. And I also bought a Vox AC15C2 amp, mainly for the British Invasion "look"(amp is now made in China, not England). I'd decided I was going to start a geezer garage band of fellow geezers with unfulfilled teenage rock&roll dreams. I've been practicing scales and also playing my Harmony acoustic and singing some simple songs. Before seeking out prospective band members though, I want to reach that plateau again, of playing solo at open-mics a few times. I'm not quite there yet... hopefully in another couple months.

Well Tex ... the drapes match. Can you play Paint It Black for us?
Posted 19 July 2013 - 11:41 PM
Tex,
my friend, very nice. You have all you need. In the day, uhm, about 1972 or so, mingling dirt bikes, girls, beer, I did have a work out with a Fender Telecaster 53D[I think?]. none the less, I was Ok, but, the bikes and girls got the best of me. Oh well
"Oh well", not a bad song, BTW by Fleetwood Mac. Alot of VERY good picking there.

LOL. Yeah, that was my daughter's bedroom. When she was young, everything was rainbows and unicorns. Somewhere around 15, she decided black and white was a good theme.
I used to play that song; I'll learn it again in time.

Excellent song! I've tried it a bit over the years but never got to the point that I felt was fit for public consumption.

I do enjoy putting the spade into the earth.
I'm trying to re-plant and rejuvenate a boundary of our property with NZ native plants, which I have grown from seed.
"Bringing the bush to town" is my motto.
Kinda boring I know but I find it good for the soul when I do it.

It's mainly about keeping fit/healthy as my day job is pretty sedentary, so I mix cycling with restoring old bicycles when/if I have time:
That's me 2nd from right, outside Versailles, France and a Woodrup that I'd rebuilt for the day's ride to Paris last year.
For those into old steel bikes, the frame was originally made by Steve Woodrup and I'd last used it about 30 years ago. It's more or less as I originally built it but with Campag Synchro gear levers and rear mech, Hope cassette hub, Stronglight triple (50-40-28, down from 52-42-28) for getting up those hills outside Paris, Spd pedals and a second bottle holder for the schlep from Dieppe.

reading .... about racers other hobbies.

One of my other hobbies is collecting American Graffiti goodies.
Die cast cars of all scales, dvd's, vhs's, lazer discs, booklets, posters, etc.
The piece I'm most proud of is the die cast Merc the Pharaohs drove. It has been autographed by Bo Hopkins (Joe) of the Pharaohs, Paul Le Mat (Milner), Candy Clark (Debbie) and Richard Dreyfuss (Curt) along with pics of them signing the car!
Here's a few shots to share....

Another hobby of mine is rebuilding (and hoarding) 60's-70's mini bikes and trail scooters.
Here are a few shots, 1st up is the '70 Cat 400X I finished up last year, a real sweety.
Then a couple shots of the rare '66 Grizzly trail scooter I'm in the midst of redoing. Two speed jackshaft and variable drive pulleys.

No not boring, I share that interest as well. Hobby farming with vintage gas and antique kerosene tractors, now landscaping with modern equipment.
Wonderful for the soul.
"FarmallAcres' is my motto. I only used IH tractors..rusty runners and self restored.
And I'm a bit Blue now that I'm not able to anymore.

Thanks Bob....we share a common interest there....... except your spade(s) are bigger than mine.
