Very nice work Rick and Rodney.
I weighed my car with all parts, and the engine is heavy, its weight is 141 g.
If it is not a secret Rick, your car weighs balsa how?

I've shipped the car off to Rodney for testing. I'll ask him he can weight it or I will when I get it back.

This car keeps getting better...a great read, follow and learn type thread.
Those halibrand wheel inserts look great.
I like to mount the body with two posts at the front and one in the rear as you have done Rick.
Some cars are the other way round, which for some reason I find less effective

I have to admit that Rodney "schooled" me on that. I would have done it the other way around!
Live and learn
I've got the car renumbered to 14 so one of our Slotforum pals can run his #4 Indy roadster. I added a little color to the car too:
Hopefully Rodney can test it this Sunday......

Rick, thank you for thinking of me, my car is near the end, and it will probably weigh 145g.

More progress on Rodneys No.3 car. Next up was about 4 hours of machining on the rear wheels and inserts (or less than an hour for Duffy in a real machine shop ).
This is what I ended up with. In the middle is the re-machined Russkit wheel and below it a wheel insert made from an Ulrich O-ring - 1/16" axle front wheel:
On the left is a stock Russkit Drag wheel and on the right is a K&B wheel. I think that K&B wheel looks cool so I copied the dimensions of it to modify the middle wheel using my little Sherline lathe:
Messing around with this little lathe is really fun. Here are the steps I used (yours may vary ):
Turn the flange OD's to .710:
Reduce the front bead height from .030 to .015:
Punch a .250 hole .050 deep with an endmill to clear the back of the soon to be Ulrich wheel insert:
Bore out the wheel ID from .530 to .600. Polish it up with a Scotch Brite pad and some metal polish and it's done:
The Ulrich O-ring front wheels gets its OD turned to fit the modified Russkit wheel:
That big honk'n nose cone get cut back as far as possible:
Lastly it's tapped 5-40 to accept a set screw and a knock-off:
Paul's Slot Car Shop urethane K&B Stock Car Special repop tires finish it off:
Time to finish off the frame..................

Thanks Paul
Here's Rodney's finished roller:
The gears are 64 pitch Weldun and run smooth as glass. The rear axle is a Parma riding in ball bearings. The motor got a fresh zapping that increased it gauss reading about 25%. It draws .42 amps at 6 volts and after a hour of running was only warm to the touch.
Gotta love those Pittman DC-65X's!
The guide is a Cox and the lead wires are thin Slick7 that look a lot like the old Marklin train wire used in the day.
When the JB Weld on the body mount post cures I can post pictures of the finished car less the driver.....

Hi Paul,
The 6V motors show up on Ebay from time to time. EJ's Hobbies has (last time I checked) 6V armatures for $5 if you want to swap out a 12V. For a gear ratio, I've been running about 4:1 with 1 1/8" tires. I think the 65 makes a really fun vintage car

You bet Paul. The Weldun gears are amazing. They work with modern Sonic 64P pinions too. The only down side is you have to open them up for larger motor shaft sizes.

WE'VE GOT WOOD!
Here's Rodney's Team California Special all finished except for the driver and steering wheel that Rodney will add to the body he hand carved:
The neato vintage Ulrich Halibrand wheels (used on a lot of American race cars in the 50's and 60's) fitted with vintage K&B Goodyear tires on the front.....
....and the same Ulrich wheel cut down into an insert and fitted into modified Russkit Dragster set screw rear wheels. The tires are urethane repops of K&B rear Goodyear Stock Car Specials. They are from Pauls Slot Cars of Canada and available on Ebay. We're using the harder compound (not his soft XPG) to help avoid "tilting" with these top heavy bodies and light space frame chassis:
Here are our Team cars together:
Okie Dokie.....time for a new build
Onward..........
