Okay, we had 7 inches of snow dumped on us here in a day.

IMG_1676-vi.jpg

Yeah, that's my car. And freezing rain is coming on Monday so I doubt I'll be leaving the house anytime soon.

So... after getting some other work done, invoices sent out I set about making some repairs to the cars.

First up Régis' BRM  Connaught Type B, which received a brand new Dynamic guide flag.

IMG_1675-vi.jpg

Then I put my focus on Jaak's Triumph which showed quite a bit of damage during the last two races.

IMG_1674-vi.jpg

Now, all fixed!

IMG_1677-vi.jpg

All the cars received a once over oiling bearings and checking for loose set screws.

NOW we are ready for the next race!

Which is yet to be announced soon as I confirm with the owner...

...but thinking of going to Bob McFarland's track in Donald/Aurora Oregon.

I've raced on his track in the past and it's darned fun!  About 65 foot ( 6.687meters ). A lot like the last track we ran (The Boss). Plus, Bob loves the Balsa cars so much he traveled down to Edgewater Raceway to watch and photograph the first run of this series.  So I think all that's needed is for me to make the call and set up a date...
And line up some drivers.
Wonder where we can find those...... ?

Good job, Jairus, keeping things rolling.  We all enjoy watching proxy races unfold.  :good:

I have been to McFarland's track once, and as I recall it might not be well suited to these cars.  It is a fairly fast track with some "tricky bits" which can result in collisions.  More damage seems like a real possibility.

Personally, I would like to see them run on Rick's track in Sutherlin.  But that's just me. :)

Thanks again Jairus,

Very happy you fixed up my car for the next round.

This whole proxy makes building the car worth while.

Biggest mistake was not gluing the tires, wish I had done that as that is a noobie mistake.
Then again I am now sure I will be gluing the tires from now on after this "hard" lesson..

You just might have a GREAT idea there James!
I'll have to get approval from the owners of these cars, but I can easily mail the cars down to you and Rick.  Think you could put a race together?

I would personally be more than glad to participate, but it is completely up to Rick.  It just seemed like a "natural fit" to me.  :)

I would be happy-happy to do whatever I could to help.  If more drivers are needed, I could arrange that, or it could be done as a time trial.  Again, it is Rick's decision.  :good:

Hi Jairus,

Well......actually......I fear my “philosophy” on the way vintage cars, especially with hand carved balsa wood bodies, should be driven is shared by few. Currently, I only know of two others, Rodney and Eric.

I was a “flexi racer” long before I evolved into a “vintage driver”.  I remember how long and hard it was for Rodney to make me drive vintage cars with the utmost respect at 8/10ths rather than at the ragged edge resulting in inevitable damage.

"The Cars Are The Stars" to be brought together and celebrated. This is basically our philosophy on vintage slot cars. I have not and will not try to influence others with our views. I mention them only to explain why there won't be a "race" at my track.

I would be happy to drive all the cars individually at 8/10ths on my track, record their lap times and comment on their handling characteristics. Rodney and Eric would probably agree to do the same on Eddie’s big, flat and demanding commercial road course. This is what they will be doing with our Rod & Custom Revival and Celebration event this spring.

Again, this is OUR philosophy and others are welcome to their own. I am not trying to force my views on anyone else. Everyone should do what makes them happy, just as I am. :)

Rick would you be so kind to drive my car at 9,9/10  :hi:

Jaak, all the racers have been happy with the current racing. It would probably be best for that format to continue on one of the club tracks.

Thank you for your honest answer Rick.  Also thanks to James for being willing to put his controller where his keyboard is.
But I agree and maybe we will do just that and wait to run at a local club track.

But first... we need the weather to warm up some.
Till then, I think I'll work at the bench, drink more coffee and turn up the heat.

Jairus thank you for repairing the car.

:good: :good: :good: :good:Thank you again for all the trouble you give yourself to organize this last race.

It is not very important, but my car is Connaught.

All thanks for the great horsepower in the Big Merc go to Dennis Sampson who blueprinted the set-up and static balanced the arm!

Just wondering if there will be another race, or should we call it good for now?

After multiple disappointments finding a suitable track I have settled on "Rapid Raceway" located in Portland Oregon.

http://slotblog.net/...ceway-portland/
Was suppose to visit it this last week but things came up and I couldn't make the trip.
March has always been busy for me and getting chosen for Grand Jury duty only adds complications.

But I plan to visit the track and get some particulars before committing.  Which include sharing the information with all participants prior to the race.

As for drivers... we will continue with the same Larry, Moe and Curly drivers who've already driven these cars successfully.

Again, I would like to thank all the head Honchos, instigator's, participants, Proxy racers, host tracks, car handlers, Postmen, webmasters/hosts et al for all their patience, highly commendable craftsmanship, extraordinary efforts, diligence, did I say patience, hard work etc for the Grand Spectacle that this Proxy has been for all viewers from the very beginning!!!  :)  :good:  :clapping:

We should all thank those who contributed the great references, build posts and tech tips too, which without there would not have been such broad range of finely detailed projects exhibited. .

From the start, I was drawn in to create something from Wood, something so warm, endearing and time tested to us as Human beings, and then to combine it with the Hobby Craft we have all chosen to spend our leisure time with.  It had to be one of the most challenging yet rewarding projects I've ever taken on. Perhaps the best reward has been being able to  join in and race with some of the greatest names in the World Wide hobby of Slot Racing today! Thank you all very much indeed!

Must say though at this point, it seems best for me to call it over and done with so I can move on to other current Proxy events.

I can understand if anyone feels different, whatever your wish it would please me.

So, if you would Jairus, at your soonest convenience will you please pack up and send my entry back same way as sent to you? I believe you have my current Missouri address and PayPal acc't in a past PM.

Any questions let me know ASAP,...I'd like to have the car back within the month as a personal Birthday present to myself  :D

Thank You All

Bruce

I am inclined to agree with you Bruce.
My work load coupled up with family obligations, church duties and Grand Jury Duty commitments these last 2 months has worn me to a complete frazzle.
I am ready to total up votes, places and points and send the cars back to their respective owners.

Any dissent in this decision?

I am calling this race for many reasons.  Running out of steam being first and foremost. But not wanting to damage these beautiful hand made cars in another race is also a huge consideration.
So... I went through the results and determined based on a points system the winner being Bruce's Mercedes #10!

IMG_1822-vi.jpg

Congratulations Bruce Wayne!
Second place is held by Rodney.
There is a tie for third between Captain Rick and Don's little Scarab.
My little Maserati seemed to be the run-away winner for Concours over on the Model Cars forum with Bruce's Merc taking second.

The cars are now carefully boxed up in the same packages they were received in and will go into the post this week.
Thank you for all those taking part, building, contributing, cheering us on and to those who drove these beasts at the track.
Thanks guys!  :good:

Also... I hope the moderator who made the mistake of moving this thread to 1/32 Proxy racing will understand that these cars are 1/24th scale!!!
It took me a long time to find the darned thread because it's in the wrong location.
