Once racing starts, the music is off.
PS: Is #28 on the list just a goof?

I've posted about Mike Asher listening to his Walkman using headphones when he won I-15 at the USRA Nats in 1990, so this is really nothing new.Jeez, just like at the wing car races where everyone has their iPod speaker systems blasting?
Hey, Mick and everyone else, Slotblog also has a decent calendar function. I added the Sano Shootout to it the other day, but it would be great if everyone else would list their events on the calendar, too.

I tend to leave this to the organizer of the event unless they have specifically asked to have someone else post it.Hey, Mick and everyone else, Slotblog also has a decent calendar function.

If we actually get some content in the calendar (besides the birthdays added by the forum software from the members' profiles), there are a couple of interesting functions I can enable.

I thought since the intent of this race is to be "old school" that we'd all sleep under the track!I'm looking to make room reservations in the next few days, is a consensus emerging yet as to where racers are staying?
During the 2006 Wing Nats I stayed at:
Marriott Chicago Southwest At Burr Ridge
(Willowbrook)
1200 Burr Ridge Parkway
Burr Ridge, Illinois 60527
630-986-4100
I was able to get a 3-star suite through Priceline for $50/night.
Check the Racers Guide to the 2006 Nats posted on OWH for more suggestions close to Chicagoland Raceway.

The Motel 6 location has a bit more of a scenic route to the track IMHO. It'll take you past the Ferrari dealer on Ogden or with a two minute detour west of Rt 83 on Ogden, the super-cool new Lambo dealer.
Also for those bringing wives, it takes you past Oak Brook Mall which has as fine shopping as anywhere in the suburbs.

Lance Briggs' exact repair bill hasn't been tallied yet, but Ron Ludin Jr. of Lin-Mar Motors Inc., where the car was originally towed, estimated the damage at about $150,000. "The body panels are cracked all around, the radiator popped out and there's heavy, heavy suspension damage," Ludin said. Scott Rothermel, general manager of Lamborghini Chicago in Westmont, said the tab will be steep: "It's a handbuilt car, so nothing fits. It will have to be rebuilt by hand." Here's the price tag on select repairs." (Sun-Times)

Mapquest wants to direct me up I-55 from St. Louis to Chicago. I told one of our local racers this and he cringed. He said he'd been up that highway a number of times and said it was wall-to-wall traffic all day and all night in both directions. Can anyone else confirm this? Is there an alternate route between St. Louis and chicago? Perhaps naively, I'm planning on driving from St. Louis to Chicago in 6 - 7 hours. Is that realistic?

I've had my Focus up to at least 115 MPH on I55 going down to Bloomington to race at Mink's. I don't run 115 in wall-to wall traffic.
If you don't hit Chicago right at 4:30 or 5:00 PM, it should take you 5 hours or less (if you don't stop to eat).

About five or so years ago, four of us backpacked across the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, from the eastern to western border, a distance of about 95 miles. So we wouldn't have to carry tents, we reserved spaces in the park's CCC-built shelters, all of which are surrounded by chain link fence because of the numerous black bears in the park. (The shelters are also infested with mice, requiring packs to be hung up on cables with excluder discs, but that's another story.)
At two of the shelters, people awoke screaming in the night because they thought a bear had gotten past the fencing. It was just me snoring...
