Thanks for another great time. Races were super close with nothing decided until the last heat. Who could ask for more? Racing "Gangnam" style! Kudos to Jackie who helped out marshaling in the last main in a super tight race!

John,
I read your post to Jackie earlier and she said " John, your welcome".
Jackie's a really good marshal for a non-racer, who doesn't do it a ton.
She was really excellent 2 weeks ago at the GL ISRA race on the easier-to-do, Flat track.

What the heck guys - I hear that I was taking a beating and wasn't even there to enjoy it. Sounds like a great day - from what I hear the Swiss vs. Swanson was well worth the price of admission.
Congratulations to Sano Dave and Rick "SPR" Stagen!!!!!!!

We are also proud of Austin Milcherska, not only did he scratchbuild the car, but this was his first time on the Swiss King.
Congrats to the Dave and Rick, they earned it (it was a great birthday present for Rick Stagen, he's over the hill now... you think he'll slow down?).

The guys that practiced last Saturday seemed happy with the track so I left it.
The result, with the sort of rubbered up straights, was the track was about a .1 slow.
Steve Koepp was in town, visiting a relative, but was able to break away to come race. He sat on the pole with a 4.878, until Thazer Raceway's Dave Geehring cut him with a 4.860, for TQ honors.
In the C Main, JP and Dennis dominated. Dennis recovered from a broken lead wire to move up to the B Main with JP.
The B Main was a good one, at the halfway mark, with four racers in close contention for two move-ups. John and Dennis fell back in the 6th heat, leaving Bernie and Rick to move up to A Main.
The A Main was another close one. Dave Geehring held on to a slim lead until he hit purple and black. This gave a Sano Dave, who was struggling a bit with a borrowed controller, to get past him and cruise to the two-lap win. I managed to hold off a very fast Manta Ray, and Steve Koepp, for the last podium spot.

Steve Koepp, again was TQ (4.777), until Dave Geehring stepped up and cut him with a 4.748.
The C Main was very competitive with fifteen year old Austin Milcherska, and Iowa's P.J. Baltz, holding off Larry, Forest and Bill, for the move-ups to the B Main.
The B Main was super-tight, with JP and Bernie, edging out Manta Ray and Dennis, by two and one lap, for the move-up to the A Main.
Ray, falling victim of finishing on black, and Dennis, not fully recovering from a rough Heat 4, again on black.
The A Main was about as evenly matched as it gets.
Six of eight racers best time ranged from 4.872 to 4.900, and all eight were between 4.872 and 5.008.
Dave G. and Steve led early. In Heat 3, Dave fell victim to a seized front aluminum wheel and resulting overheated motor. Steve led until he hit black, the 7th heat. Rick, on orange, overtook him.
The last heat saw Rick protect his lead on white, while Steve was steaming hard on yellow, but was still about six fet back as the race ended. I snuck out another podium as Sano Dave had a rough finish on Red.
The below pic shows where Rick and Steve finished in the Finger, with me in the middle of them, a lap back.
IMO, Rick really won this one, with his nice 35 lap heat on Black, the highest of the day.
Special thanks to:
Manta Ray Price, for handling tech and lending me an excellent Can-Am car.
Larry Kelley, for a terrific job race directing while I raced, and an even better job, spotting my loose braid.
Steve Koepp, for sneaking away from his wife, while on a little Chicago vacation, to get in a little racing.

Back to work today. I had a great time racing with everyone at Chicagoland Raceway.
I was there visiting my stepson and his girlfriend. They live one block west of Michigan Ave, on E. Lake St. So wife and stepdaughter had good time shopping. I had good time eating and just people watching. We walked a lot on Sunday so I got to see The Bean and other neat stuff. First time I really got to visit Chicago, I know now that it is a nice city. I hate driving there but once parked everything is within walking distance.
As far as the racing goes it was fast and close. I need to thank Mike Swiss for the help setting up my cars before I got there. He answered all my questions so cars where close when I put them down on the track.
Thanks to Dave G. for telling me how to drive that track and all the help he gave me. Plus he let me think I was fast until he outqualified me. LOL.
Rick S., congradulations on the win. You beat me far and square. Hopefully I will get you next time.
Good to see Sano Dave one of my favorite persons that race slot cars. Also, got to see Rob Gardner, an old friend that I have not seen in like fifteen years.
Wow, what a weekend. Again thanks for all the fun.
Until next time, your friend...

It was Rob Garland, not Gardner. That I got to see again after 15 or so years.
My bad. Sk
