As I build, I find mine looking a lot like yours. It is very helpful using yours as a guide.

 

Here is my rear platform.

Plumber wires are .055

Up and down stops for the plumber are in back

 

 

TFlex body clips insert into holes in angle brass sections.

Max width is 1.380

 

 

 

Now, where did I put that doggone Alclad chrome paint ?

On this car, I'm not totally sure simple non-hinged body mounts would not work just as well on the track.

But, plumbering it up made me feel good

Found a little time to get the inside decals placed and double coated with Faux Glazing Medium.

 

So, that doesn't bother the other lexan paint that you eventually put on?  I always have trouble with the decals...

No, the Glaze does not hurt the paint.  If you use a thick coat of Lacquer or Enamel, it will ruin the Glaze and the decals.

 

The Glaze dries clear and keeps paint from seeping under the decals.  Usually I use Acrylics such as Faskolors over inside decals.  Make the first coat a very very fine mist to seal the decals.

 

I have known people, noteably Bud Greene, an expert modeled/painter, to use Lacquers over the decals/Glaze, but they were extremely careful to make super fine mist coats to start with.  Otherwise the decals will curl.  Here is the method I use, thanks to Tom Andersen:

Getting the body on and off is a little tricky.  Maybe pins would have been easier.

Oh well, if I built it right, the body won't be coming off and on a lot.

Did you cut the tit off .. the manifold?

You mean the knockoffs ? They come with the kit.

 

Yes, I accidentally broke the tit on the exhaust manifold.  I'll fix it.

The first manifolds I made did not have the "tit", but it is easier to line up the plastic

tube with it. The Plastruct plastic tube bends easily and will hold the shape without

heating. I balogna slice the rear end of it to replicate the real pipe. Not all the real

cars had pipes going all the way back behind the rear axle. Some ended just ahead

of the rear wheel and had a kick out at the end.

I found out A.J. Foyt raced a Dean Van Lines Special at Indy.

Also, there was a car named the "Wolcott Special"

There are lots of books on the Indy 500. Many specialize on the years just after WWII to the

mid '60s, better known as the "roadster years". Most old timers consider those the golden years.

Here is my interior mounting method, two self-tapping screws. The interior is hefty, and I'm afraid tape would lift the paint job.

Exhaust manifold secured on the inside with clear silicon seal.

 

Like Dave C. said, the tube is easy to bend.  I secured it to the side of the body with CA.

 

 

This car is done.   Not perfect, and not a concours winner, but I sure had fun building it

Checkout the left rear tire (the only one visible) in the photo - the outboard half of the tread is missing.

 

Is that tire just worn that way (it's an inside tire in the left hand turns), or is that an obscure "Indy semi-slick", or do I simply have no clue what I'm looking at?
