Thanks, Steve.

Who knows why the left rear on that car was half bald.

Maybe a "Wolcott" trait, eh ?  :)

Steve,

I wondered the same! If there is unsual wear it should be on the inside unless the rearend was bent/shimmed to add a bit of camber.

A closer look reveals quite a bit of thread on the very outside with what might have been wear bars. I'm thinking the tire may have been a "half-slick". Maybe the inner surface treaded to reduce heat?

Doc may know. He would have been in his prime (about 55) when that photo was taken. LOL

Independent rear end??????

Body roll would let the car ride on the outside of the left rear tire.

Judging from the "plain jane" Wolcott Special artwork, I would guess they were rotating the tires to save $ :laugh2:

Probably very very low budget :)   Mine cost me about $60 :dance3:

Silicone adhesive works great for securing the side pipe as well as the inserts in the wheels. The

silicone lets you remove the inserts and use them again when the tires wear out.

If you look at pictures of cars that have been run at indy, you will notice that all the tires

are worn on the left side, the side towards the inside of the turns. It doesn't make sense,

but that is the way they wear.

Wouldn't you expect more weight to get transferred toward the inside of turns with the chassis offset being to the left? Spring & shock tensions might play an important part too. :)

Likely the tires are rolling off the rims and putting more pressure(and wear) on that edge.

Jens, the race date has not been officially announced yet.

Here is the official source, where Mike Swiss will announce the up to date news:

Post-race teardown, cleanup, and rebuild: the only damage I had was broken spinners and some chipped gold paint.

Everything else was in great condition. Motor looks fine. Zero chassis problems. All she needs is new rubber, new braid, and a tumble.  Chassis is ready to do battle again:

Got all new inserts and knockoffs from Chicagoland.  Tried something different this time.  Painted 'em up, sliced the nubs off the back of the knockoffs, and ground a little paint off to allow the glue to adhere.

I'm going to make "spinners" of sorts up front, but the inserts will remain fixed to the front axle while the fronts independently rotate.  The front inserts need to be ground down a little on the Hudy so as not to touch the hubs.  The ID of the wheel hubs are .628, so I made 'em about .595, then JB Welded them to the axle keepers.

IMG_1831.JPG

The knockoffs are JB Welded to the ends of the axle and the inner ring on the face of the insert.

IMG_1840.JPG

The rears were easy, I allowed the axle to protrude about 1/16" into the insert hole; they are JB Welded on tight and rotate with the wheels.
